I may have found the answer to my dream-manifest neuroses.
And it's name is Halo for the X-Box.
No, seriously.
Sigh. Here's the thing. When I'm not singlehandedly saving the world, I have really vivid Hollywood-style chase dreams. And in said dreams, unless I have superpowers, I don't have any real way of fighting the people who are after me, and that feeling of powerlessness is fucking above and beyond scary I'll tell you that.
Did I mention I can never run properly either? And certainly never faster than those after me.
This sort of non-gaming first-person shooter would do a world of good for these repetitive dream cycles. Here, I'd have a ready weapon, something with which to fight back instead of just trying to get around them and hoping that they don't find me. Plus, the intent is clear, as are the targets, not anyone bigger or faceless or any scarier than I am because we're all out there with the same resources. This is a big thing because I'm no good with hand-to-hand combat stuff, not even a little, and while I'm the first to lament the lost art of swordfighting (no, really) feeling like I have no control over my situation is worse. I've taken self-defense classes and none of it has made me feel empowered or safe because I'm nonconfrontational and when I feel threatened I get irrational and not-thinking and there goes all my concentration and just randomly throwing punches doesn't cut it in any real way. Here, I'd have something that would in essence symbolize the wits I need to have about me in such a situation, where my opponents and I are clear and equal, and the playing field is leveled to neither's advantage.
And I may have just spent too much time waxing poetic about a video game. But...yes.
