I hate waking up late - it just wrecks all that post-good dream lassitude I like to lie in bed and wade through, maybe get it down as fodder for later. Good thing I packed my clothes for the rest of this week last night because all I had time to do was dress and put in my contacts and still arrive ten minutes late for my appointment.

Mmm, haircuts. I worship at the foot of my stylist's chair. The hair on the back of my head's pretty much grown out, so she just re-cut the all-over layers and razored the ends. I always walk out of that salon feeling like a rock star.

To the beach it was, as I didn't want to scare the coming visitors with my obscene whiteness. You seriously wouldn't have believed I'm a SoFla local if you'd seen me before the three hours I spent out there today. So nice! There was a seabreeze so it wasn't stagnant and stuffy, and ocean water is just a joy to float in. My thanks to the Gulfstream currents for keeping it at around 85 degrees, too.

Determined not to give up on my timepiece quest, I stopped in at the Broward Mall on my way home. On a whim, I actually bought Clinique makeup - I've only ever bought drug store foundation, mostly powder stuff, and know next to nothing about complementary or seasonal colors. Something new every day is what they tell me, so there we go.

I was a bit ambivalent en route to the hotel - [livejournal.com profile] isilya sounded so proper and formal over the phone, and here I am, this jeans and T-shirt fangirl. Seriously though, as soon as she opened the door to their room, all of that dissipated. These girls are some of the sweetest, funniest, coolest kids ever - that I was looking at spending the next six days with them made me the giddiest I've been since finding out Challenge was going to be held in my backyard. [livejournal.com profile] plum_evil was our conversion project, coming in knowing maybe their names but certainly not as a member of the fandom. She told us about her band, Just Like Viggo, which continues to make me snicker even just passively thinking about it. I promptly took it upon myself to gush about Round & Round to [livejournal.com profile] grrleloquence in person - she's the sweetest cat you'll ever meet. And then, there was our Australian native, the crazy girl whose love for Justin brought her 25,000 miles to my little township on her road trip across America. She's just as enthusiastic and adorable as you'd think if you've ever had the opportunity to be cornered by her online. Yeah, I think this week will definitely be more than I ever hoped it could possibly be.

I called [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow from the car to tell her to meet us for dinner. Where are we going, she asks. I'm taking them to Las Olas, I say. "Oh, that's nice of you," she says. "Isn't it though?" I reply. We all thought so when we got to Café Europa, anyhow. Great food, great conversation, and while I'm immensely glad to have them here, the ache in my belly about letting them go at the end of it is already building.
