maybe next time use your eyes

Okay, first, since people have been asking: The seabreeze from the Gulfstream current may not have kept you cool during Skills in Miami, but let me assure you it's because of that very thing that the weather wasn't much, much hotter, more stagnant, and dangerously unbearable. It rarely gets into the high 90s in South Florida even at the height of summer, whereas you hear about people dropping dead left and right in other major cities all the time during their heat waves of well over 100 degrees. The rainless cloud cover of '03 was a spectacular stroke of luck, something that didn't strike twice (though there was plenty deluge-ing on the Wednesday before and the Monday after Challenge, so the fact that events weren't cut short by rain was in and of itself a small miracle). Miami knows it's hot and humid and has taken steps to air-condition every indoor facility - it was the organizers' stupidity to hold an outdoor event, for which people have historically shown up in the early afternoon, and not providing enough water, shade, or any opportunity to cool down at an event that runs close to three hours in length. Also, since the aforementioned breeze and Miami being flat, including all architecture but a handful of buildings downtown, we get much better air circulation in general, which means less mess lingering in the air of pollutants. It's the difference between being in a ventilated sauna versus a hot oven, in my mind. So yes Miami is humid, yes the temperatures suck, but it's not the oppressive and dangerous of smoggy, polluted big city heat.

Nobody gets to rag on Miami but me, apparently.

My bottle of Tylenol and I are gonna be much better friends before this weekend is out. However, the apartment is filled with baked goods, and the cleaning began even before the cooking got underway, so all told, this time of month isn't exactly virtue-free.

Yesterday. )

Dude! Someone liked one of my icons - one of the few made by me, not the illustrious [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow - and asked to use it. I'm not down with icon-sharing, but I did offer to make her one of her choice in the middle of my flattered squeefest.

Did something I've never done before - I watched SportsCenter last night. A whole lot of ESPN, actually. Loved the breakdown of the Pistons/Pacers/fans fight at the end of last night's game, complete with freeze-framing the video to add arrows and commentary detailing and breaking down the action, like it was another play-by-play. On a more serious note, that was some scary, messy stuff.

For those interested, that LiveJournal meme, because I do get the questions sometimes:

C'mon, you know you want to know what's up with that 'gjs' business. )

Mmm. How are almonds in the shell so much better than the ones you buy already shelled? Also, The Santa Clause is on my television and there's the distinct possibly of seasonal coffee tonight. You know, whether you have a "legitimate" reason to celebrate the holidays or not, I couldn't be happier the time of year is upon us.

Quote of the Day:

Someone described Dan in these pictures as "a gay train wreck." I'm so sorry I don't remember who, but know that you made me laugh and laugh.
