Aah, home (where home = my apartment). I didn't have time to enjoy it after a lot of top-down driving in the midday sun to make it here, but I did rescue my Cheesecake Factory coconut concoction from its marinade of melted whipped cream onto a plate before having to jump back behind the wheel and get to work just two minutes late. The night passed, I didn't have time to dwell too much on
walkingshadow moving out of the state, and now I've had breakfast consisting of a S'mores Pop Tart, chocolate-almond biscotti, Twizzlers and tea. I'd feel irresponsible, but mostly the luxury of being able to do all of the aforementioned is pretty much the definition of handling responsibility.
In some small way, every time I go back to South Florida, I say goodbye. Development and cultural migration have rendered it no longer the place I grew up in, one of the two teachers who truly gets credit for making me a good, competent person is retiring, and my twice-divorced now mother's job is more in Jacksonville than Palm Beach. A few more drives along the despicably dangerous two-lane highway Route 60 and this state will hold very little for me beyond theme parks and that feeling of standing on the edge of the world as the ocean waves lap at my ankles.
Also, that was Sora of the Genii shopping for cotton clothes in my commercial break. I'd know that spectacular red hair anywhere.
