I almost got a cat today.

After finishing my unenviable tasks at the book-in office at the jail, I was pulling out of the parking lot when a cat sauntered out from beneath a bench near the courthouse and planted itself on the sidewalk to watch me pass. I stopped and looked at him (no idea of its gender, but in my head it's a boy and his name is Jack) for a moment - he seemed to look right at me, though that's unlikely with the fading light and window tint.

But he did, ( and something in my gut lurched. )
