Coming off the vacation high is such a sad experience, especially when it entailed walking off the plane from Atlanta on Tuesday directly into the office (in all fairness though, breakfast did consist of Ben & Jerry's Dublin Mudslide ice cream eaten en route to the airport in a little red convertible with
walkingshadow). I then spent the afternoon outside in the balmy swamp that is Florida assembling this story, which is so Polk County it made me die a little inside.
So after getting home and a stiff drink, I fired up Winston and didn't climb back out of World of Warcraft for the next two days. Well, OK, a few times for showers, because while the temptation to let that sort of thing lapse was certainly strong, being on the other side of a four-day con makes a believer of everyone, and once to trot down the street with
flatword to Starbucks. The male baristas (no clue on the conjugation, if any) continue to be the only ones who can make a decent cup of coffee in the place, and my hat's off to the sheepish grad student for the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Huzzah for fall!
Today was work again, remarkable only for Chris, who was playing Amazing Grace on the harmonica outside the jail book-in office so beautifully that I closed my eyes and for a moment was with my brother and mom, just talking and laughing. That song always makes me think of them, that life didn't shaft me completely on relatives.
Tonight will be applying for jobs and leftover Chinese food (though one in the same: The fortune cookie basically told me to go turn my life upside-down, it's time for adventure, then taught me how to say "Where are you going?") In the meantime, I'm doing the gradual withdrawal thing by plotting my Doctor Girlfriend costume for next year, reveling in Brandon's uncanny imitation of Henchman #24, and watching DragonCon TV.
