I'll put on my Mom-hat, and ask if the cough is the 'holy shit, I can't control this' kind of a cough (in which case, try Robitussin CF) or if it's the 'I am trying to see how much of my lungs I can expel' kind (then go for the Robitussin DM.) Also, the Target/Kroger/Wal-Mart brands are pretty much just as effective and cost about a third less than Robitussin itself.
And real-live chicken soup (preferably not from a can--send somebody to a restaurant/deli?) is always a good thing.
