Yesterday was lovely.
Dec. 28th, 2003 09:30 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Sleeping in, waking up to an empty house ('rents are gone to Tennessee and probably won't spend more than three seconds of their time there skiing. *grumble* I tried to convince them they would never see me - I'd be up at 7:30 for the opening of the slopes at 8, out until 4:30 and the last one up the lifts, then a quick dinner and night skiing from 6 until whenever they dragged me away kicking and screaming. But alas, no dice.)
So instead, I had a lovely lunch and conversation with my brother (whom I become more proud and happy to call my own every day) then went to lose myself in the black hole that is Sawgrass Mills. Do remind me not to do that. I never find anything, and everything about it just grates on my nerves.
Also, it's where to go when you want to run into people. Caught up with Neema, who's going to Spain next semester because she shares my school malaise.
You know, whenever I tell people that I kind of slacked off this semester, all I hear is jokes about partying and beer and how there's more to life, eh? Well, yeah, and the aforementioned has nothing to do with my situation. Really, if the state of Florida wasn't paying for it (or if I, you know, had any kind of a backbone), I would've taken off from school about a year ago. I'm educationed out in a big way. I need to either do something else and realize how lucky I am to be in school and not the real world, or find something I love and go back to school with some sense of purpose, something I lack right now. Journalism isn't bad, I'm just not good enough with talking to strangers for it. I don't know. I have such the love-hate relationship going with it right now. Hopefully the classes this coming semester will resolve the issue more clearly.
Anyway, walked very quickly by Chad Kaplan, who's gotten unfortunately stocky and (even less fortunately for me) no less hot. But the person I really want to mention was Brayden. Man, I haven't seen that boy since graduation. He's at FSU, so there really is no reason for that. We weren't terribly close though you couldn't tell from the way he hugged me. *loves on good huggers* I was on my cellphone in JCrew when he tapped me on the shoulder, and it took me a moment to recognize him because of the longer hair and jaw scruff but yeah, definitely Brayden. We talked for a bit, and then I pretended to shop while he pretended to sell me things when his supervisor looked over. Such a fun boy, and I was totally funny right back at him, a feat I'm always proud of. The first he said to me? Like, only right after hello? "So, I've been hearing things I can't quite believe. Is it true that you've been following *NSYNC around the country?" Wow, did that come out of left field. I keep forgetting I have real life friends on LJ. I had to set him straight that, no, in fact I was only following JC around the country. He only grew more amused as I babbled about 80s rock. He knows what it's like to love music.
So I tried on a sweater and he catcalled from his post in the juniors department, got a great deal on it - a cream-colored turtleneck I love to pieces and will get the chance to wear about three days out of the year in Florida - then we said our goodbyes. Brayden! It was good to see him. My New Year's resolution is definitely to be more social, I think. Lots of things are going to change this coming semester.
The photo developer at Wal-Mart may have derived some deep amusement from my assorted gasps, flails, squeals, and jumping around while I went through my pictures from Irving Plaza. Oh my god, but those are beautiful. I mentioned how the lighting that night was the best, right? Proof. So sad I only had two rolls of film on me, but oh, I think I now have all my favorite moments on film, and also one of those positively joyous expressions he made periodically through the show. The boy radiated happiness.
On my drive to Miranda's, I had the windows open and was blaring JC's show, singing and wailing along to One Night Stand. Yeah, the little girl in the family sedan in front of me may have chosen to pay attention around just relax baby, don't be shy. Oops. *g*
Seeing Miranda was great. I never really know I have things stewing in me until given an outlet to gush, and then watch out. I gave her a brief recap of the New York/Boston adventure and rambled about who remembers what.
I had to stop for gas in ghetto Fort Lauderdale. As I was finishing, a guy pulled up at the pump next to mine, leaning over to say I really shouldn't have stopped here. Yeah, I know. Then he checked out my car, said he just sold his a couple of months ago and looked totally floored when he noticed it was stick. Yeah, boys love girls who drive stick. He asked my name and number in the same awed breath, and for god only knows what reason I gave them. His name is Warren, and he has warm hands and a fantastic handshake. We'll see about anything further if and when he calls. But what is it with me and older men? He looked about 25. I can't remember the last time a boy my age hit on me.
I have high hopes to get a chance to read some SeSas today, as well as finish Prisoner of Azkaban and finally, finally make it to Order of the Phoenix before the break is out. I love that my ambitions need not be any taller for the time being.
Quote of the Day: (with thanks to
charlidos)
"Music is my entire life, so I think it's obviously important because some people out there have a future in it and they need to know about it. I always participated in the music programs, whether it is chorus or whatever, but I always wanted to try and play something or participate in something because that's what I was interested in... and it would be a shame to alienate something like that and take that away from somebody - the choice, the opportunity."
