I am so far behind on LJ, catching up looks nigh hopeless. Anyone else would be rightly daunted - however, circumstances like these have historically done nothing but encourage me, and it's not like the crunch really starts for another hour anyway. Whoo for late columnists!

I think I'm going to break it off with the boy simply because I just don't have the time nor the willingness to commit the effort it would take to be in a relationship, much less build it.

The whole Works In Progress Amnesty Day thing was genius, props to whoever thought of it. I avoid WIPs like I was allergic, but it's cool to see the things people have knocking around in their heads, stuff that is now either too dated, been Jossed, or just lost its way for whatever reason.

My own essay is progressing very well. It's not the event itself that I find fascinating - it was amusing for a moment, but that's the extent of my feelings. It's the circus that's built up around it, what's being said/written, the industry-wide ripple effect, the inherent hypocrisy, the investigation and its eventual results that have sucked me in. It's the machine I want to eventually end up as a cog in at work.

Giving myself a manicure is always such a satisfying experience, especially after a week's worth of demolishing them. They look vaguely presentable again, and it's easy street until at least Friday for this girl. That party did me all kinds of hard-earned good - adding in sushi, ice cream, and Emerald Cove last night with Miranda, this weekend's been (an albeit all-too brief) joy of R&R.

Three of my saves from last week - a spelling correction on 'traveling,' an omitted 'than,' and correcting the title of the Disney film A Bug's Life - made the Best of the Week board. And did I mention they gave me my first front-page article to proof last Wednesday? Still hopping from that.

There was a segment with Lance on ET on VH1 this weekend where Maria Menudos asked him which tier of the Heaven and Hell ball he was going to. Lance said heaven, because: "I'm a believer!" It involved intonation and hand gestures, and my god do I love the boy's unhampered dorkitude.

Did you know beef jerky is $6 a package? Ludicrous! However, my venti dose of Amaretto Almond Cappucino is still only $1.09, so all is not wrong with the world just yet.

JC looks so much paler than he should in those Clive Davis party pictures. On the flip side, the black ensemble and ironed hair he's rockin' makes him the sexiest faux vampire since Lestat, and there's no bad there for that particular kink of mine.

On the other hand, he looks delicious tonight. That cream suit, man, I'm lovin' him head to toe. Mmm. Also, that Rivers woman should've been banned from interviewing a very long time ago. But then, I think Barbara Walters is lame and manipulative and Larry King is inane, so what do I know?

[ETA: Oh, Justin. *hugs him tight* His first fucking Grammy [acceptance speech], and they made him apologize. And the way he took that pause before doing it! Fucking bastards, the whole lot who had any hand in that.]

That was just grotesque - the apology, I mean. In no way should he have been forced to taint his win with that completely pointless pandering.

It really, really was. Seriously, if I hadn't been standing in the middle of my office, I would've burst into tears. As it was, I had to apologize for the colorful string of obscenities.

'Grotesque' is exactly the word for it. I felt sick to my stomach for the boy. And 'pointless pandering' is right, too - court of public opinion aside (and haven't we determined that the majority of America is a bunch of naive, lazy reactionaries?) There's not been a shred of evidence or conclusive finding that blames him in any way for the Super Bowl incident, and it's nothing less than a travesty that after all his success, after a year of outstanding work, a deservedly acclaimed album, and now the ultimate payoff, it's all tainted by some ridiculous, meaningless stunt? *seethes some more*

Everything about JC and Justin is delighting me tonight, from how sharp and beautiful they look to JC's unfetted support of Justin and Justin's ability to rise to the occasion. But, you may want to put your ETA comments behind a cut tag; I think the west coasters are staying away from LJ tonight, but you don't want to inadvertently spoil any surprises!

I'm holding with whoever on my frienslist said not to expect miraculously staying spoiler-free tonight by cruising LJ. There's nothing else anyone is talking about, at least not the crowd that surfs my journal. *shrug* Just my opinion, of course.

I know that you are in love with your burberry scarf, so when I saw this (http://www.livejournal.com/community/pop_icons/4315638.html#cutid1) I thought of you. It's not a scarf, but hey ^_^.

As I said in my most recent post, I must be living under a rock because I had no idea the Grammys were tonight, so I didn't see anything before Sarah McLachlan's performance, but hearing that about Justin's speech struck me as wholly unfair. I'm no huge fan of the boy at present by most means, but no one should have to do that while accepting an award, let alone their first award of a kind, let alone a fucking GRAMMY.

Aaaw, thanks for the link, hon. *g* I am indeed very deeply in love with my scarf. I never dragged around a blanket or had a stuffed animal as a kid, but this scarf comes damn close.

Exactly. No one should take any of that joy away from you. His first speech, his first moment up on that stage, and he had to concede even a nanosecond of it to that undignified, unproven, eminently forgettable event. I'm still seething here.
