So much for the technology cooperating. It seems that my copy of the Odyssey 9 remix of A.D.I.D.A.S. (the first remix posted on Riprock & Alex G's site) is in .mpeg format. Does anyone have a version of it that's an audio file of any sort? Their site really "" doesn't like this computer, and I've checked the Project. Much obliged. [ETA: Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] halimede!]

In other non-political A.D.I.D.A.S.-related news, I find the various edits/clips/versions we've been leaked absolutely fascinating. How cool is it that we essentially got to hear the song evolve in the creative process? I really liked the chorus of the original clip, which was higher and the beat faster. The different vocal mixes on the two alternate versions up on the aforementioned's site are so, so cool.

But the thing that caught my attention today was the background vocals of the ostensibly-finished-but-apparently-not-final-edit version of the song I found on Morpheus about a week before the CD was released. Listened to it closely this afternoon, and while the lead sounds the same, the background vocals, instead of being the monotonously chanty way they are on the official edit, do this really interesting mimic of the guitar that I like lots and lots. It's not loud, it's not forceful - it's almost lilting actually, like the song didn't start out an anthem but grew into it from humbler rock roots. Of course that's not its story, but listening to those vocals (and how much do I love that for all the bells and whistles JC loves so much, he never compromises on making sure the focus is on the vocals?), you can hear how it could be a different song, as surreal as that incarnation would be. I'd do a very lot of things to hear an unplugged version of it. Not as much as No Strings Attached, but it's a close call.

I have it as an mp3, find me as brinequeen on AIM, or mail me at halimede at xs4all dot nl or something. Is there any way for you to get the morpheus version of ADIDAS to me? (If it's not too much trouble, just asking, 'no' is a valid answer etc. *g*) I'm really curious about it. :)

Sadly, AIM won't reinstall on this computer, so I only have Yahoo! Messenger. I've got webspace I can upload to for you, or if you don't mind getting Yahoo! Messenger we can make a switch that way, but sure, I wouldn't mind passing it along at all. I still remember finding it - was just trolling for general stuff and it downloaded, and I figured it would be a whole lot of silence like the rest of the full-length clips back then or one of the smaller clips - image my shock when it turned out to be an entire, studio-finished version of the song. *g* Lemme know how you want to trade.

Also, I don't think I've said this to you, but I adore that icon beyond words. His face! The caption! *loves*

Trillian does Yahoo! too, so I should be online as brinequeen there as well. If you can't find me, let me know, we can work something else out. And wow, that's a *very* fortuitous find. :)

torch made the icon, she mentioned the idea for the caption and I begged shamelessly for an icon in that vein. I'm very, very fond of it. :)

I just had to squee over the fact that your mood icon is the Lance Bass flyer thingy. I do believe it is the one I scanned after Kelly asked me to pass them out LMAO!

Well, one way or another we managed, and that's all that's important. Whoo! And 'sexy' is so the right word. I find his singing incredibly sexy, which is mostly why I've never been able to take this song seriously before. I've always had fun with it, but nothing beyond that, you know? But this version is *spine-tingling.*

Thank you again for the track, for your offer of hospitality, and just yeah, big big thanks. I'll update as I can from Paris but will be in touch, again, one way or the other, and we'll plan more as things get closer. Cannot wait at all.

Oh! Before I forget, please do let me know if there's anything you'd like from the States. We have the oddest discrepancies in products, so if you can think of anything you'd like/miss/what have you that I can find Stateside, please let me know.

Someone sent me the scan when I did my recount and found JJB pictures of the rest of the prank. His real room number! It was genius, truly.

Huh. A post about the musical merits of ADIDAS. How novel.

*g* I've found a lot of validity in both the criticism and praise made against/for it in reviews. Personally, I was in love when the first strands of guitar played, but I can see the issues with repetitiveness, and the dance break really needs the performance element not to feel too drawn-out, etc. But at the end of the day, as the man himself would say, I love the song, but not for the same reason I love JC's other tracks. In this version, he sings the lines instead of yelling/chanting them, as he does for the rest of the song. Which is fine, it's a rock anthem, I get it, but JC's voice does things to me, very visceral things, and the incongruity of his singing the chorus is beautiful and intriguing and makes me yearn to give up all the production I love so much and stick him on a stage with a guitar in his hands to have at it.

Love, love love ADIDAS with all of my early-1980s-bred heart.

On a totally unrelated note, I've tried that beautiful CD you burned for us and gave to us in Vehas in all of my CD players, and it just. won't. play. :( Do you have any extras lying about by chance? I'll pay for postage!

*hugs*

And I love A.D.I.D.A.S. in that New-Wave-never-died-in-Europe way where it was practically breakfast food when I was growing up. *g*

Me and mail, man. Mostly, I suck, and have had another copy of said disk for you sitting around since before I left school. I'm shipping a whole mess of stuff to Angela tomorrow and was going to include it with that, but if you drop me an e-mail (iwan2kno@ufl.edu) with your address, I can make up a package just for you, no worries about postage.

We did manage! And it was lovely to talk to you. :)

Just to let you know, I just emailed you with the contact info of two of my travelling friends at the addres given on your profile page. They'd both be happy to talk to you.

And, a strange request perhaps, but if you happen to be near an art supply store, I'm looking for Nori brand starch paste and they don't seem to sell it here. But I know you must be really busy, so if it's not on your way, then don't worry about it. Thanks for the offer. :)

I got your e-mail, thanks again. I'm going to try to get settled in Paris, then work my way to wrapping my brain around how to manage those two weeks. *tries not to worry too much*

I scoured three art supply stores in my area today - none of them stocked anything like it and no one I asked knew anything about it. :( I'm sorry about that. But I'm going out again tomorrow - do you remember what the packaging looks like? Jar/tube/colors/anything?

Hey, I said 'only if it isn't too much trouble!' Might be that they don't have it in your area, so don't worry about it, it isn't supposed to stress you out. Just remember to bring my contact info, and all will be well. :)

And feel free to call me anytime once you're on this continent if there's anything I might be able to help with or look up for you or whatever.
