While I found them to be a good mix, the auction was for primarily Justin pictures. These are solo shots of La Timberlake, back when he was just Justin.

No reason for the black and white, the scanner was just being whimsical.



I really wonder where some of these pictures came from. A few feel almost too within their circle.

Love this one. It's oddly reassuring that there was a time he was a bit ill at ease with all the attention.

Out of context, these pictures could be of any kid at all.



That earring is terribly tacky. Cute for what it is, but terribly tacky.



It's like the picture of JC in front of JoJo from the in-studio. Again, randomly black and white.

October 26, 1996. Such.a.dork.



He looks a bit like a pilot. And interestingly older. I forget how much hair means until JC cuts his off eight years later and manages to look nigh identical at certain angles.

It *is* a bit eerie. The lister said these were 96/97, but who's to say, and Justin was growing by leaps and bounds back then, so it could be a bit later than that. Still though, very oddly grown-up. But then, you can say that about a lot of pictures of Justin.

That was taken from outside through the glass of the bus, and yeah, it did turn out pretty and oddly appropriate for the tone of the picture. He looks so young, and so tired, and I can't even begin to imagine what their lives were like back then, but yeah. Oddly intimate is right though - even given how new they were to the business and fresh and hungry and open, some of these pictures really seem like they're from the cameras of people much closer to them than fans at airports.

I think a lot of these look so intimate because they were taken back when they were just starting out when they were able to be more friendly with fans. I'm sure those first shows they did, they saw the same faces over and over again and so were more willing and more open with those people. Or maybe I'm just cracking smoke.

Ooh, that's a very good point about familiarity! Getting to know these people when there was less of a crowd wherever they went, having time to hang out and probably being more accessible because of less security detail/more intimate venues/etc. So cool that such candid moments exist for us to treasure, too.
