These aren't going to be real updates, but they'll have to do as I continue to try to work out the absolutely abominable state of affairs as far as internet connectivity in this country. May no one ever know the sorrow of a house free of internet, amen.

Anyhow, still doing well, test this morning notwithstanding. There was good pastry afterward, so with the evening out. In fact, though I usually lose weight traveling, the French have been feeding me so well, I might forgo the splurges I was planning on just to have a sit-down meal every day. Won't eat like this ever again, of that I am certain.

Kelsey and I did indeed see Prisoner of Azkaban on the 2nd, and It Was Good. I have a lot more to say about it, like how much I love Alan Rickman and Draco's note-passing and how everyone got to have good hair and my appreciation of Lupin's musical tastes and how he and Sirius are so MFEO, it curled my littlest toe. But more on that later.

The roommate, Jess, and I were so well matched up. We didn't fill out much of a personality survey, but they seemed to have done a good job with everyone. She's been sick for the past couple of days and freaks out every time I blow my nose or cough that she's given it to me, but I keep reasuring her that I've been doing it since I walked off the plane. Kelsey, another friend and practically our third roommate, and I are getting on famously, going about town, seeing movies, lunching - she's from New York and tells me glamorous stories of boarding school and all her famous family friends and I... listen a lot. No, we talk, it's good.

Also, while I do like Paris, it's not where I see myself. The language barrier gets a little easier every day, but I like English, and I've realized there's no way to learn French to the extent I want to know it without having been born here. I'm on a classical music kick, which will mean the record store and Vivaldi and Mozart soon. We went on a day trip to the champagne region and Reims, where they crowned all the French kings. Cathedrals are truly awe-inspiring.

I haven't seen a television in two weeks. Same for LiveJournal. Only found out in passing about Ronald Reagan. I miss you all terribly. Hope everyone's doing well, the postcards are going out this week, and real updates in the other journal are coming soon.

Hope you get a chance to go visit Versaille. Truly impressive!

And I'll take English over French any day :)

Oh, definitely not going to miss Versailles. It's beyond magnifecent from what little I've seen of it, and I can't wait to wander the halls and lose myself in the gardens for a good day or so.

And yeah, I realize I am snobbishly fond of my language and all its eccentricities. French is pretty, but English is precise, and the pragmatist within wins over the Venusian almost every time.

It's good to be able to make myself heard! Or something. *g* I make it to the cafe when I can, but I'm dying to share all my pretty pictures and detailed accounts and I've yet to figure out a feasible way to do that. Shall see.

Hope you're doing well!

I love Paris, but I don't think I could ever live there. Leaning a foreign language is always tough, but you've probably noticed that being there w/ your "textbook French" hardly prepares you for effectively communicating w/ people.

Otherwise, we miss you here!

Especially with the language afficionado that I am - it's what they pay me for, after all - I'd walk around a mass of inadequacy for the rest of my life here. And heh, yeah, the textbook French. *rolls eyes* Could've done with a conversation class or three before landing, that's for sure. But then, who among us speaks proper English?

I miss youuuuu! *hugs* So very much. I haven't looked at LJ for real in almost a month. Though the twithiness and need have lessened, as all withdrawal symptoms do, I miss you all something fierce, but I can't think about catching up with the spectacular lack of access I have right now. Keep on keepin' on, and I'll see you at Challenge. *mwah*
