Yes, Captain Kirk, for everyone's sake of course. You know, he likes to rationalize his emotions toward Spock as good for the Enterprise, while Spock likes things 'logical' (even when that involves admittedly highly emotionally charged acts. Now, I did see the logic in those decisions, but the angle with which he chose to see his actions is fascinating. In the way that, for being one to feel insulted when compared to humans, he's an awful lot in love with Kirk. It's not objective logic is all I'm saying.) I ought to keep count of how often Spock says that word per episode. We usually call protesting too much on others. Anyway, I'm just wondering how they'd individually justify their emotions. As an aside, I'm thinking Spock's too much of a professional and clean freak to go beyond on-deck Vulcan mind melds (and can I tell you how that makes all *my* rational circuits sizzle?) but who's to say. Also, Spock permits an awful lot of touching for his generally cool attitude. Just sayin'.

To continue a trend, last night in pictures and another chapter of Meet My Folks:

Downtown Miami at sunset from the 105 intracoastal bridge. The photographer was my brother, as I was a bit preoccupied with driving at the time.

Not what I'd hoped to capture, but colors change so quickly during sunset. The sky was actually bands of red, white, and blue when we pulled into the parking lot but by the time we found a space and dug out my camera, this is what I got. Still pretty, no?

The entrance to the Blum building of Mt. Sinai.

Sign next to every elevator bank in the hospital. Mt. Sinai is a Jewish hospital, and to the best of my logic, it has to do with not doing work by pushing the buttons.

I will skip the deeply depressing part of my grandmother's treatment and suffice it to say that I made sure to tell every member of my family who would have the opportunity to make that decision on my behalf not to allow me to continue living in a condition that far deteriorated.

On a more uplifting note:

This is my brother. Little brother, for the record, because although he's now four inches taller than me, he will always be two years younger. Good kid, sometimes annoying, great with cars, often goofy, very popular with the ladies and prone to talking a bit too candidly about the related sex life. Love him on his good days, learned to roll my eyes fondly at the rest.

My biological father. I got most of my looks and temperment from him, though hopefully I'm a bit less insufferable. He strikes this pose very often, as the only thing he loves more than chess is the sound of his own voice.

Since we were already on 17th Street, only about ten blocks from the beach, and it being past one in the morning by the time we left the hospital, we went to Jerry's Famous Deli.

My aunt Agi. My middle name came from her, and my parents couldn't have chosen a better relative to pay tribute to. Everyone who's ever met her loves her - the woman is sunshine and kindness and determination and generosity beyond compare. She doesn't have any kids of her own, so she's done everything within her power to see to our happiness long before we ever came to the States. She's lived here since her twenties, opened her own business almost 40 years ago and is the reason for my lifelong Froot Loops addiction.

We were also celebrating my aunt's 63rd, and this was the birthday cake. The wholly visible word is 'happy' in Hungarian. Despite the odd green tinge, it's not actually Matrix cake, but it sure was good. The frosting was caramel-flavored.

Loew's hotel. Rather pretty, no?

Which brings me to today. Packing? 0. The sopurelove of Kirk/Spock?

Six hours, and I still wanted more.

Another proper introduction:

Our puppy, Lulu. She's a purebred Yorkie with a gimpy left hind leg because of it, but you'd never tell from the way she hops up on couches and comes running when you walk in the door. Though she's more cat than dog in disposition, and oddly empathic.

And finally, our newest addition:

His name is Bartleby. My brother and I stopped at Hallmark for a card last night and I saw him there. He's part of a series called Punkies by TY. But mostly, he's a pink elephant! A pink elephant! Someone else appreciate the living metaphor with me.

As a change-up from last night, things I am currently grateful for:

- [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow is back in town
- the announced VMA performers and clubbing on South Beach afterward
- a real freezer in the new apartment
- the costuming opportunities of Star Trek - tights! Woolly leg warmers! Kirk in red flannel and Spock in blue jeans! Honestly, what's not to love about this show?

Quote of the Day:

"Why Mr. Spock, you almost make me believe in miracles."
- who else?

[ETA: Wow, who knew how much havoc a few flower spores can wreak. That was a very painful scene to watch. Also, probably one that launched a thousand fics, but wow, I'm not sure the cost was worth it.]
