Ryan One-of-Three is deserting me to go to Italy... with his literature class. No, seriously, syllabus for the semester: Read a few books, have a few discussions, go to Italy for a week and a half. Say what? How did I not know about this action? Anyhow, he works three nights a week, and (purely without ulterior motive, scout's honor) I offered to work his Sunday nights. He was very, very grateful and promised me a veritable fount of Starbucks coffee in the future. Hey, his coffee runs are singlehandedly keeping me in groceries during the holiday season (because not only will I only drink Gingerbread Lattes for as long as Starbucks has them, I will drink them early, often, and then some more.)

There was a column somewhere in my recent reading past that commented about TV being worth watching again, and I concur, sir. I haven't had a show I made sure to be home for since first-season Smallville (had a class conflict during the beginning of Season 2 and never caught up), so to have two shows I love (conveniently aired back-to-back!) is such a joy. Lost continues to intrigue despite the very, very creepy implications about Crazy!Frenchgirl's baby. Liek woah. Also, I [heart] Sayid. Honestly, with Dom around, I haven't paid him a terrible lot of attention, but definitely yes. And Regency House Party continues to delight, though ladies, really, if I were in your place I'd be doing positively everything in my power to throw myself at the feet of Mr. Gorell Barnes. Sweet Jesus, the man is hot and British and dashing in that waistcoat and pants that leave nothing to the imagination. Mmmthankyou.

To avoid confusion, let me assure you that I did not love The Da Vinci Code enough to be actually invested in the movie's casting, but Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon? Makes me go a big wet one. He's much too old and, well, Tom Hanks. This is gonna be action and suspense, and the female protagonist is gonna be too young and it's gonna be another one of those situations I spend more time rolling my eyes at than enjoying, if I see it at all. Personally, they're probably gonna play up all the purple prose-y stuff and cut out what actually made the novel worthwhile reading.

Gossip! Justin splitting with Cam over bad press? Hey, whatever it takes. (Oops, was that out loud? As darling as I found them at Challenge, she just Does Not Do It For Me in a big way.) However, scandal that pleased me not at all are the pictures of Eva with an alleged "real boyfriend" who's pointedly NOT le Chasez. *sigh* That would explain a lot, eh?

Quote of the Day:

Adam Brody: "I think Seth is in love with Ryan. Every time I read a scene I think, 'For sure next scene, they're making out.' ... 'So, Ben, when I do this line that's vaguely gay, I'm not gonna look at you, you don't look at me, and let's stay five feet apart.'
Conan O'Brien: ... "I can't wait to see it all go down... [audience erupts in laughter, Conan catches himself] ... So to speak."

Word on the casting of "Code". I'm glad someone outside of my family agrees with me. There's got to someone more suited to that role than Hanks. Langden struck me as this kind of academic rock star, but not the kind that actually abuses his looks or fame. Kinda like Indiana Jones, but making more with the tweed and less with the bull whips.

I'd dearly love to see Rachel Weiz (sp?) as Sophie though. I think she'd do a smashing job.

He was terribly charming, and totally sincere instead of uncomfortable or giggly schoolgirl about the whole thing, which was also nice to see.

Yes! YES! Indie in tweed is totally it. And Tom Hanks is no Idie, and in case anyone's listening, neither is Harrison Ford anymore. How's about Ewan McGregor (yes, yes, I realize Langdon's a Yankee)? Just someone, well, more hip is as good a way as any to put it.

Dude, I'd be so right there on that. It'd be like The Mummy for history/symbology geeks. *g*

Not even a little bit. I don't like the show at all, I just happened to be watching the Conan rerun last night and know Adam Brody's a spunky kid. But the show is unrealistic, badly written, melodramatic drivel. IMHO, of course.

...really? I'm seriously asking here, too. Maybe I should give this show a spin after all.

*bounce* I figured out who I had as my mental image of Langdon...or at least damn close to it: Sebastian Junger (http://literati.net/Junger/). Make him a little geekier and not so freaking drop dead gorgeous and you've got my Langdon.

*fans self*
