Excellent shindig at
icraveattn's tonight. And you know what, I probably wouldn't have gone had it not been for the end-of-cycle sexy confidence hormones coursing through me. Seriously, all you need to do is believe that you've got it, forget about all the stupid insecurities you dwell on the rest of the time, and be your charming, witty self. The rest comes to you. A note though, avoid the ex-boyfriend in the corner giving you the third degree.
Danced with RJay and Jen, which was wicked cool and much needed. Talked to George a little, but really, aside from RJay and Mike (who can apparently swing me a job for the summer term, huge help), I talked to all new people. This is shocking and unheard of. Irena and Walter, though technically I vaguely know the latter from a very, very wasted night of Power Hour plus half madness. Irena though, she was really groovy.
Got three phone calls coming in tomorrow and making one to one Stephanie, who showed up wearing my long-sleeved RENT shirt, with whom I had quite the enjoyable conversation (which I started!) We talked about the show, I let slip that I saw it with Joey, she squealed and said yeah, he's the cutest, and we may disagree mildly on that point but she's a fan of *NSYNC and actually saw them in Orlando last year! We're so watching tapes and swapping stories.
I'm still a little dazed, and not all from the residual alcohol. I mean, that was truly an amazing night. I felt neither bored nor put out and seriously, people will respond to what you give. And I am an articulate, funny, and engaging human being, even among new people. This is terribly encouraging. We're chipping away at the unnecessary defense walls slowly but surely. So thank you George for the invite, thanks to Mike for helping me out all around, thanks to my dancing partners, thanks to biochemistry and alcohol, and to everyone else who was fun, accepting, and out to have a good time tonight. Rock on, everyone.
Also, a rec from earlier. Go read Amber's Romance. It tore me apart in the way that I was awed by the artistry of the blood spatter on the wall afterward.
