So, so in love with Somnambulist.

Joey got engaged back on the 18th, eh? I say good for him and mean it, but I can't even pretend that the fact of his being slashed even less in fandom doesn't put a damper on things.

Lance is to be inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame. Uh, I think I just wanted to state that for the record.

Good on the part of the Supreme Court for striking down grossly antiquated and obscenely invasive legislation, no matter that I had to pick my jaw up off the floor at the existance of the kind of laws where a gay couple could get arrested in their own bedroom for being intimate.

Clay is on the cover of Rolling Stone! Looking rock star-y but still every bit the charismatic Southern boy he is. (In other only vaguely related news, I got one of the collector covers from way back when, and RS called the boys The Fab Five, which made me giggle way too much.)

The sheer volume of fic recced and to be gone through for the reccing these past two months has resulted in the emergence of favorite authors in the characterization of specific boys and pairings. Very interesting. Someday, will do a huge post about the authors I love and why. For now, I adore Synchronik's Joey and Rhys' TrickyFish, though even those for entirely different reasons.

Had a long and lovely (and isn't that how things ought to be?) discussion with Miranda about fanfic, writing styles, stories we liked and pairings we favored and why. That's another post brewing, how the boys are characterized differently (even during the same time period) depending on whom they're paired with.

I think good writing at least involves not just the ability to empathize with one's characters, but one must also feel compassion toward them. Not to the point of sparing them lesson-teaching pain, but there's a need for understanding and the necessity of justification for actions toward any character, good or bad. Respect for their integrity in the process is the second. That includes their actions and words and the necessary plausibility therein, two of the things that get thrown wayside in favor of plot development or (however necessarily) contrived character interaction. Justin's not an arrogant, inconsiderate brat for wanting to do his solo project, though other situations depicting him as such aren't entirely unwarranted. Joey's not a bad person for not sleeping with whichever bandmate happens to be crushing on him because he's straight. JC's not a hapless space case - people just need to let him finish speaking. And other such gross misinterpretations. So, what I was saying before, compassion and a little r-e-s-p-e-c-t and the only way is up.

And lord, she may be well on her way to talking me into National Novel Writing Month come November. (I may have stayed up until 4:30 this morning drafting a plotline, but that's beside the point.) It's 1,667 words per day! Which, no, not much, but every.day for thirty.days, involving a single.plotline. I mean, one could ostensibly do it like Synchronik's On the Bus series as well as Helen's Guerilla series, but eek, you know? Shall see about semester courseload, then we'll talk some more.

Quote of the Day (with thanks to Cooper for the link)

"Lance is what made us special."
