Gravity's bringing me down.

On the academic front, I spoke with yet more advisors today, none of whom could put me in a different lab section or help me in any way I haven't already thought of/tried myself. See, I knew, I knew there was another shoe just waiting to drop all that time everyone in academic advising told me everything was fine and I was on track for my studies. Well it's dropped like a teenage boy's voice during puberty now, and I'm left to put the pieces together without going insane in the process. War's not over until tomorrow though, so tonight, I refortified and prepared yet more strategy.
*sigh* I just feel like I've done everything within my power, talked to everyone I should, went to the classes, checked out all my options, and I still don't think it's going to work out by tomorrow night but there is simply nothing more that I can possibly do. And it sucks. I despise limbo almost more than bad news.
Feeling whimsical, I filled out
powrhug's survey:
Which NSYNC member would you most want to...
1. kiss? JC
2. have a relationship with? (as in date) Joey
3. marry? Lance
4. have a one-night, meaningless stand with? Justin
5. have a long conversation with? JC
-What are some of the things you’d ask him? I'd talk to him about songwriting, inspiration, his interests, where he likes to go to think
6. (which two) see in a relationship? Justin and JC
7. (which two) actually watch having sex? Joey and Lance
8. have kids with? JC (he'll have the most gorgeous, talented babies, whatever inevitably inferior creature he ends up with)
9. be just friends with? Chris
10. be for a day? Why? Justin - come on now, wouldn't anyone?
What does it say about me that the answers as to whom I would marry versus whose children I'd want don't coincide?
My love affair with McKeen and History of Journalism continues to blossom and thrive. He's written books on Bob Dylan, teaches a class called the History of Rock & Roll and was the primary consultant for a compendium of said topic. He's fabulous.
All the text messaging today was grand fun, thanks to everyone who played. Isi though, I know she has nothing but love in her heart of hearts for me, and that she'd never keep JC's single a second longer from my grubby paws than it would take for her to dial the phone and push play. *g*
I'm not quite prepared to pay money for any publication with the twins Olsen on the cover. And yet, I really liked a lot of the stuff in the current issue of Rolling Stone.
Oh. Huh. One slot in another lab section opened up. It appears as though I'll be in lab tomorrow morning... at 7:30. Not sure that's an improvement. *heavy sigh*
Many people said lots of lovely things about the two ficlets I posted, which I very much appreciate. I might really, really like my Lambs scene. I like the idea of them at this stage of their lives, both of them having experienced things, grown up and come to terms with themselves and in the eyes of others.

slimslash* She of the generous heart and gleeful squeeing. Kevin is the premium in hotness tonight, Sting is adorable hammy or befuddled, Nick loves Howie a whole lot, and Brian sings much too beautifully to merit his bad rep. Where's the love, yo? Seriously.
Miranda and I went for Italian-turned-Mexican food (I so resisted the proper conjunction) and Starbucks coffee but fuck I'm wiped. Today was just... long. Doing everything within your power is exhausting, yo.
But! This! From
missoutcast: UK Radio premiere for "A Lover's Prayer" on August 15th - Robin Gibb will be Steve Wright's guest on his afternoon show, Friday August 15th. Steve will interview Robin, AND, première Robin's fantastic new single "A Lover's Prayer" on British radio. "A Lover's Prayer" is a remake of the Bee Gees song on "Still Waters" (1997) and features guest vocals by Wanya Morris (BoyzIIMen) and Lance Bass (*NSYNC).

Battle cry! Who is that, rampaging over the steppes! It is Jules, hands clutching a burning branch! And with an ominous howl, her voice cometh: "I'm going to hump you with such wanton cruelty, your blood will flow counter-clockwise!"
Rawr, baby. Or you know, euw and slightly creepy.
Required reading for tomorrow: Lambs college AU. Because apparently, when it's not actively All About the JoLa or alluringly Bassez-flavored, it's all Lambies, all the time 'round here. Baaah!
Friday!
plum_evil! Road trip!

Oh. Yes. I think that's Lambs at their best, you know. Happy baby!Lambs stories just don't work for me because they've not grown into themselves yet. They're under so much pressure from all around and while I can see them finding comfort in each other I can't see something like that lasting. It's the later Lambs that, as you've said, grown up, getting together that I really like. And really, hon, it was a lovely ficlet.

Eeep! Okay. I may have squealed there. Just a little.

Date: August 28th, 2003 11:11 am (UTC)Exactly. Happy baby!Lambs isn't a relationship scenario, more of an age/fun/comfort sort of thing. But now, it has the potential to be something of substance. Also, it's an awful lot of hotness imagining it. Never a bad thing.
And really, hon, it was a lovely ficlet.
*g* You're a doll, thank you. It was just... nice to write, the vibe of it, both boys and I liked that it was even between them, finally.
Eeep! Okay. I may have squealed there. Just a little.
And rightfully so! Bee Gees! Lance the industry's darling backup vocalist! I love Coda a lot "" and thought that bit was particularly clever.

The article on the Olsen twins was actually, uh, really good. Surprisingly enough. I didn't know the first thing about them, but they live in a very interesting world.
Italian-turned-Mexican food definitely sounds more appetizing than the alternative. Bwah!

Date: August 28th, 2003 06:58 am (UTC)I may have watched I Want It That Way a lot "" last night. And brought Miranda up to do the same. It is le bon crack, as those inclined to butcher French are wont to say. :) Can I just say that I've never really thought about the lyrics to that song, but they make. no. sense. If you've got any insight, I'd appreciate it lots.
The One! AJ! So handsome and that pretty, pretty voice! Nicky losing the jacket and frolicking in the audience! The playing around onstage! More full-body shots of Kevin and his manskirt! Brian seems like such an absolute sweetheart! *continues to remain very, very confused about the hand he's been dealt* So good! All of it! This was such a great performance all around.
General impression from all the footage so far - they actually sound much better live than on the record. That they do a lot less in the way of choreography goes with their sound and vibe, yes, but it doesn't mean I don't miss it.
The schedule thing! I just got back from the new lab section this morning, and wow, I feel worlds better about all of it. This guy is approachable and accomodating and understands that we're mostly unprepared and will need guidance and is willing to work with us on stepping things up as the semester goes on instead of the belly-flopping into cold water that the other section's got to look forward to. He'll still expect most of the same things, which is fine, it's the way he's going to be reasonable about making it happen that's got me completely okay. Plus, I'll like writing for him, which is always a big, big plus. So, yay! Now, it's only making the PoliSci class work and deciding whether I want to keep Advertising as part of my schedule this semester, as it'd be purely an elective. Whee! Thanks for your support during the dramarama that was this past week, I really appreciated it.
Oh, I only pretend to have shame about anything pop culture related anymore. Anyone who reads US Weekly with the regularity that I do has zip in the way of room to talk.
It's only upon scrolling down to the seventeeth definition that it means what bad fic writers intend.

Date: August 28th, 2003 07:07 am (UTC)There's another version of I Want It That Way with different lyrics. Supposedly these make more sense. I think I found it on Kazaa under "No More Goodbyes" or some such name. The "real" version sounds a lot smoother, but the words don't make any sense...
That they do a lot less in the way of choreography goes with their sound and vibe, yes, but it doesn't mean I don't miss it.
They do quite a lot of dancing in the concert footage (like in "Get Another Boyfriend" and other clips from the Black and Blue tour), but you're right, generally they tend more toward a smooth vibe. However, the early footage that I've watched (much of it on German videos I've bought on ebay.de since moving here) shows a lot more choreography -- NSYNC's early stuff was clearly based on BSB's successful dance/performance style. "Get Down," for instance, is just like any early NSYNC choreography you could point to.
I guess as a group they must've decided the dancing wasn't as important to them when they wrested control of their own music. Because it's certainly not that they can't dance. I'll try to include a good selection when I send you some clips.
I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better about your class. :-) That's marvelous.

My god! I'll have to check it out. :-)

!!! One could only hope. Because wow, I looked at the lyrics on paper last night and still couldn't come up with anything.

Mmm, and quite nicely, too. No, you can totally see they've got the dancing thing going on, but it's just not their style.

Color me completely unsurprised. I do not entirely get the whole 'two virtually identical groups' tip Lou seemed to be on. Unless you're not splitting the market but rather capitalizing on it twice. I forget how little cognitive dissonance teenage girls have. ;) /snark
