It'll just give me ulcers that much faster. And I have a family history, so let's not.

So, Justin's in London from the middle of November through the end of January. Which we've known... how long? A pretty long time. Longer than people have started saying January for a reunion rather than September.

For the sake of sanity, we're not even starting in on that date fiasco. Even if Justin's tour hadn't run into the month from all the postponements, it would've been unreasonable to expect him right back in the studio, much less JC whose album would've just come out, which would've meant doin his own solo promotion and firming up a tour schedule, if not jumping right into it as had been the plan.

Right. Planning.

Back to the point, why do people insist on saying January when it hasn't been any sort of a realistically feasible option for a while? Even before BT announced that his own tour dates have been pushed back at least, ostensibly from the KIIS interview, in some way relating to JC's joining him on the road, the album had been pushed back some three or so times (at some point smack within the month of September, but we've discussed that one.) I understand the pressure to give dates, and dates in the reasonably foreseeable future at that. But don't give us dates if there's no way to make good on them. September was reasonable enough for a long minute before rumors of a JC album in the late summer surfaced. Even if Justin's tour had gone off without delays, there's no reasonable way to have had him be on tour for much of the year and then just start doing recording, much less promotion and touring all over again, back with *NSYNC. Even he is only human, despite all appearances.

And then there are all the people saying Justin would be insane to go back to *NSYNC, period. Now, if I recall articles and footage correctly, there was a good chunk of time in there, after Celebrity if not No Strings, when most everyone was, however grudgingly, praising the boys' creativity with their music. Their vocal harmony may have been an established point of recognition, but now the music was having its day in the sun. [livejournal.com profile] navia gave me something of an education over in this entry about the circumstances. It's good to know that people beyond their music industry peers, who, for the record, have been praising them for years, were giving them a fairer shake at least after the G singles. *NSYNC is a phenomenon beyond the boy band fad or bubblegum music, something that many others excluding the band, whose members have said the equivalent on their own several times, have said will endure, and not as a late-night television punchline.

Which makes the rumors of backstage flack against Joey's casting, despite his relatively extensive credits, from the Broadway community because of it and the initial scorn against Justin's solo effort and now this accusation unreasonable. The group may have started out on questionably valid grounds which were well on their way to being definitively broken when these issues arose. Personally, I think the group's greatest sin, and probably the thing that will keep validating recognition out of their reach, is that a sizeable majority of their fan base, though by all means not its entirety, is comprised of barely-teenage girls. Ergo, they couldn't possibly possess talent beyond looking pretty because that's why they're there, after all. And while that's not a fatal flaw, it's certainly something to be overcome to get to the actual music itself.

Which, have we mentioned, has happened? Grammy nominations, anyone?

Sigh. I'm done ranting, as I'm beginning to repeat myself. This is not me being a fatalist. It's not in my constitution. Besdies, like [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow reminded, they're still saying they're going back in the studio and there's nothing to be done but trust them.

It's just... argh, you know?

This also isn't me trying to place blame. This is definitely not me pointing fingers at either or any of them. I have nothing but love in my heart for Justin and can't be happier for his success. Same for JC, and I hope he gets all the credit he'll rightly deserve for the kickassness that this album and tour will be.

However. If I should feel the desire, it's on Jive. If we'd had JC's album in August, he could've toured in the fall and while Justin is going to be in Europe, and in my head, right now, it's mostly as simple as that.

My consolation? That the fandom is still in high swing after almost a year and a half of the guys going their own (if, delightfully, not always separate) ways. It's great that this fandom (and not just because it's a real person fandom but because we like the boys as well as the sum of their parts) isn't like a television show or a movie, where the characters don't have lives outside of the medium. But we got here because we like them together first and best. And if there were a more dedicated group of people failing to make something happen through sheer force of will? Well, let's just say if ever there was an example that we do *not* have an in with some higher power, this would be a good one.

Grr. Icon. Did we mention?

I spend too much time writing essays that will never see the light of day outside LJ. As an aside, everyone should so read [livejournal.com profile] canalbaby's chronologies more often. Research has never been this much fun, yo. Smoking pot before concerts! Brawling over the same girl! Being linked to each other! However much of it is truth or crap, they're a hella entertaining read.

Also, y'all should read this. I don't agree with it, but that neither detracts from the fabulousness of the story nor the ingenuity of the idea before it was Jossed.

Can you love Rocky Horror Picture Show and not be into slash? It just seems like that would... take effort.

Caught a rerun of last Friday's Tonight Show when Jay apparently had Conan as a guest, and dude. Dude. That was weird. Conan's better on the other side of the couch, but it was still a trippy little good time. Can't wait for the special tonight.

Oh, and to wrap up: Lance's boxers are tacky, but I enjoy the thought that Joey's probably his supplier too much to let it bother me. [livejournal.com profile] beatpropx rocks righteously. I've only seen the first part of Justin on Ellen and am charmed beyond words.

Icon still stands.
