Instead, I am in fact making up the cast list for Miranda's and my two-woman production of RENT. Yes, we are indeed going to tackle the entire musical between the two of us. The parts were easy enough to assign, as we both have fairly versatile mid-range voices - but more than that, as Mark and Roger were no contest (even if I do have the higher voice), the rest of the cast was determined pretty automatically.
I was doing quite well, too, until Benny, who's a tricky bugger. Technically, Miranda should have to play him by default of his solo coming directly before Mark's in La Vie Boheme, but in You'll See, Mark, Roger, Angel and Collins all interject. Besides the fact that all the participants in that one are principals and they're stepping all over each other's lines, too. That'll be a lovely mess to negotiate.
We decided that we might take each other's parts as necessitated by the ensemble songs, as Mark and Roger are the only two hard and fast roles. Also, some of the smaller parts that are played by a single person in the show have to be split between the two of us to accomodate the major characters.
*grumbles some more about You'll See* It's only working out if I step in and do Roger for a few of his lines while Benny's singing. But that's not sporting. Darling, we'll talk later tonight, 'k?
