Fandom Recap, 08.10-29, 2004 )

And then lj user equals charlidos and friends made my morning. Thanks, ladies. Oh, Lance. *hugs him tight*

Finally, my tree. Mmm, Nutella.

Sept. 24 - Oct. 3: Hazelnut Tree (Extraordinary) - Charming, sense of humor, very demanding but can also be very understanding, knows how to make a lasting impression, active fighter for social causes and politics, popular, quite moody, sexually oriented, honest, a perfectionist, has a precise sense of judgment and expects complete fairness.

Aaw, lookit the idealistic control freak. Nice to meet you.

As far as real life, this weekend was pretty uneventful after Friday night. Yeah, there was the office party on Saturday, but they only had beer to drink, I suck at pool and socializing with strangers, and Natalie, in a drunken volume, announced that hallelujah, praise be, we have a new Desk Chief. When I told Staci who it was once we were back home, she about did a spit-take of her drink all over me. Apparently, the girl worked at the Alligator two years ago, and who knows what she's been doing in the interim but it's good enough to make Emily run screaming "We got one!" through the office last night. I'm also to understand she has not yet shown up for job training, despite tomorrow being her first night. This is me, firmly biting my tongue. However, there was immensely stress-relieving PopOdyssey viewing going on in Sarah's office (Emily is apparently a fan) tonight, of which I snuck snatches between passing around floppy discs. Aah, our slowly dying technology. Natalie declared we're switching to typewriters tomorrow, and at this point, I'm thinking it can only be a step up.

Staci felt the need to ask what I was drinking when I walked into her room with a yellowish liquid in my glass. For the record, it was apple juice. She thought it may be wine. We shared a Look and decided we're gonna not go there. Neither of us.

And as others mourn the end of the Olympics, I rejoice in the return of Conan tonight. Too long have I been denied his brand of consummate silliness. For now, I'm off to make dinner and listen to Hootnanny for the thousandth time. How did we not go nuts over this song when it was first released? So good!

Frances isn't supposed to be here for another two days at least, but you wouldn't know it by the thunderstorm going on outside. Man, living in Florida, I've seen rain, but this is looking minimum tropical-storm caliber with those winds and the total lack of visibility. *hugs Miranda close* She thinks she's going to class in it, but she's mistaken.

Went to bed around 8:45 this morning thinking my alarm will wake me for Ethics at ten. Aren't I cute? Yeah, that's what I thought too while rolling out of bed around one.

Never mentioned why I did that fandom roundup, eh? I haven't really commented on any fandom news in about two and a half weeks, because reading LJ has been a two-hour-per-night exercise of reading personal posts, updating my own journal, saving pictures, and leaving any fannish news as an open tab because that's all I had time for. Needless to say, that could only go on for so long, and I didn't get to it this weekend given the general listlessness and denial of the bitterness I was in fact harboring over the Desk Chief issue, but this morning nobody could stop me. Paid the price later, but this felt more important to make right. My world needs sparkles, damnit.

It seems Thanksgiving's come early: )

Happy Tuesday! And for those of us who shrieked with delight, happy release of the first season of Star Trek on DVD day!
aruan: (Lance - smart is sexy)
Spent a lot of money today. "" Granted, most of it on necessary textbooks (andmaybetheStarTrekDVDs) for which I've got a scholarship grant coming, but it's never any less painful. However, I've also come to terms with my sad dependence on US Weekly (and for freee! Well, for six months anyway), scored a 256MB memory card for $18, and resisted the wicked temptation of William Shatner and Leonard Nemoy talking about the series in the home of the latter, so overall, a job well done.

Staci and Miranda are planning to go hurricane supply shopping tonight. Now, we all have windows in our rooms and a bay window in the living room which the university has no plans to board up, so Friday night will be spent in our hallway playing Scrabble by flashlight, probably drinking, and possibly bonding over near-death experience confessions. You only wish you had that much fun to look forward to.

Seriously though, this thing is huge, and gaining, and whatever trajectory it takes, it's coming straight for us. Gainesville is not a town accustomed to storms, neither built nor terribly prepared for them. Also, it'll be all our first hurricane without our moms. Hopefully that area of high pressure over the Bahamas works out, but the local news isn't telling us to hold our breath.

Sarah brought the office still-warm Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and my god that's dangerously good crack. Lance and JC know where it's at, yo.

Quote of the Day:

"And on a somewhat cheesy note, I don't realize how much I want *NSYNC to get back together, or how much I actually MISS them together until I hear them sing a capella."
