Happy birthday wishes to my brother, who turns an improbable twenty today, and [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy, whom I can't speak for but I hope it's a good year, whichever it is.

So hey, cabin fever is even more fun with four other people. And since there's no more alcohol, a situation which came about with loud group singalongs to Bon Jovi but also near-tragic consequences last night, we're just sitting around and trying not to get increasingly curt with each other because there's naught to do, as should we set even our littlest toe outside, not that we would, we'll be arrested. So, progressive insanity it is.

We actually did have a hurricane though. Frances came around something near five in the morning and has hung out all day, wind and rain and debris and our mattresses are in the hall, our breakables stowed away, our water stored up, showers taken and the last bits of computer time being taken advantage of before possible power lossage.

And just for kicks, Ivan is now a Category Four storm with 135 mph winds, and headed for, where else, the vacation capital of the world.

Fandom news, because there's only so much doom and gloom a single post can contain:
- Justin spent a day in a motion-capture suit to become part of a new video game, where he'll play a scarfaced, thuggish character, to whom he'll also lend his name.
- I'm digging the Good Foot clip. But then, Pixar hasn't steered me wrong yet.
- JC, in a nigh-unbelievable turn of events, will not be performing on the Great Wall. Such a farce, man. It's all just so beyond ridiculous, I can barely muster the necessary indignation.

And in no news at all, I [[[heart]]] [livejournal.com profile] valiumbitch. The latest predicament had me tipped out of my chair and on my ass before I was done wiping tears from my eyes about it. Cannot.wait.

Quote of the Day:

"Aaagh! [P]rose haiku! [D]ie die die!"
- but really, every word of [livejournal.com profile] mimesere's rant about drabbles here

What good are primers if they leave out key information? Like, oh, did Kirk and Spock know each other before working together on the Enterprise? I'm under the impression Kirk assembled the crew himself, but episode guides would have me believe Kirk's best buddy was that Mitchell character who went crazy during their first warp jump. So, to anyone in the know, to what extent, if any, did Kirk and Spock know each other before working together, and how would you characterize their relationship early on?
