aruan: (Kirk & Spock - Cool)
Not wanting to deal with election fallout has its disadvantages. I should remember how sucktastic an undertaking catching up is. Seriously, those of you who have friendslists into the several hundreds, I've no idea how you do it, but there's mainlining of some sort involved.

Friday night was Roommate Night: Take Two plus an errant Editor-in-Chief for The Incredibles. Well, eventually The Incredibles, anyway, after fifteen minutes of the most inane series of previews for something called Bigg's Adventure, which, not that I was planning on seeing it but definitely won't now out of spite alone. Insert a few trite PSAs during which we made spousal abuse jokes and loud groaning noises, and hell will freeze over before I'm ever on time for a kids' movie again. Though there was that Revenge of the Sith bit that felt out-of-place - whatwith the entire film being one long epic battle - but no less highly enjoyable and squee-inducing. And speaking of enjoying things, The Incredibles totally lived up to every sold-out show and rave review. An immense amount of fun, even if you're only as marginally versed in spy movies/shows. And Edna! Tiny little Edna totally stole all her scenes, and if she was even remotely based on Frau from the Austin Powers movies, it would be too perfect. But everyone was great. Which is weird to say about a cartoon, but they all felt like real people. And Jason Lee continues to charm me senseless as the villain, which bears no further exploration, not at all.

Looking at electoral maps of states and seeing which county went which way is a fascinating exercise. Here in Alachua, we're a lovely shade of blue amid varying hues of redredred in the northern part of Florida. *sigh* Going through the election reaction posts now, with a modicrum of perspective and not wanting to rant and cry quite so much has been interesting as well, though I wish the issues being raised weren't too little, too late, for the next four years anyway.

How is Star Trek such a bad show? I mean, honestly, with the awful pseudo-science and zero stunt training despite all the fight sequences and the overdramatic writing and every cliched bit of mood music? They've got such fabulously complex and cool (see icon) characters doomed to the mediocrity of everything save each other. If I didn't have [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow by my side, I would've given up long before now. As it is, we spent a terribly enjoyable four hours snarking, dubbing in our own dialogue, and watching as it continues to be the single most slashtastic thing ever to air on network television. We could all use a little 1967 right about now, eh?

I think I'm going to start a list of harbingers of the apocalypse, as there's little other explanation for a myriad things, the latest of which being [livejournal.com profile] rhyssj's declaration that she's going Lambs. !!! Combined with my currently listening to Paris Hilton and actually bobbing my head along, it could only be around the corner.

Quotes of the Day:

"Daily Show -- the cure for what ails your broken dreams apparently. Oh I wince when I laugh, but at least I laugh."
- [livejournal.com profile] embitca (P.S. Bully? So the shit. Remind me to never, ever cross this boy.)

"[I] still don't think [Remus/Sirius, but really, insert any formerly marginalized pairing here, is] that popular, it's just that the people who love it love it, and nobody likes too much unchecked fandom joy."

Pierce Brosnan must be getting tired of the same questions about James Bond being asked by the pack of journalists following his public appearances.

"There's a lot of guys out there that can do it. Colin Farrell would be good, or if you want to go younger, Daniel Radcliffe."
