"I could Justify Stripping his Timber by the Lake."
-Osama Bin Laden

*snerk* That's the most fun I've had with capitalization in forever.

Wouldn't you love some context for that one? ;)

This was my third year at Universal, fourth doing the Halloween-themed park thing (Schiz got me on a kick, as if anything could hope to top Knott's Scary Farm.) This was their thirteenth Horror Nights, only their second at Islands, and the novelty of rollercoasters at night, walking studio backlots converted into haunted houses, and the everpresent dry ice fog failed to grow stale to me for another year.

Miranda and I made fantastic time on the freeway and were parked by seven o'clock. We ran along the moving walkways like giddy kids on their first trip to DisneyWorld and were through the gates in ten minutes flat.

First stop was Dr. Seuss Land, where creepy carnival music played as we rode the books-inspired merry-go-round. What is it about carnie music that is so unsettling?

Next was our first haunted house of the night, drive-in slasher movie-themed to go along with this year's featured baddie, the Director. We walked through a too-ordinary kitchen and between the bunk beds of a zombiefied sleepaway camp, among other classic horror movie sets. Oh, and while I appreciate the effort, warning me about the man behind the curtain does not in any way diminish my reaction when he brandishes a knife at me. *meep*

Needless to say, after that we spent much of the rest of the night clinging to each other and running from the eerily well made-up park employees, who seemed to be lurking everywhere - there was one guy who blended in completely with the foliage. Also, whimpering will only encourage them.

Okay, so that thing about rollercoasters? Yeah, love them, but I get cut off at two consecutive rides. I am inadequate and weak and three in a row make me queasy.

Afterward, we hit up the house behind the Jurassic Park pavilion. Hear audio of us in line for Psycho Scare-apy. So scary! It was a mental institution called Shady Acres Rest Home where the inmates had taken over. While in line, they played creepified Johnny Mathis interspersed with interruptions by a perfectly genial-sounding nurse for Dr. Hughes to report to the electric shock therapy room and that the lounge would be showing Westerns tonight. Inside, there were large men clutching stuffed animals, defiled bathrooms (with matching smell, good god!), padded rooms with hanging sheets and mirrors all around, said "therapy" room, and it was all very well done and totally Cuckoo's Nest.

Scare of the Night goes to the woman in the television room. It looked completely empty save for the strange bodies propped before the flickering set when we walked in, and it's entirely possible that I was nervously chattering to Miranda on my right when all of a sudden this towering woman steps right up next to me and says something entirely innocuous. Dude, I jumped a foot in the air, screamed loud enough to be heard at the other end of the park, and reeled back flat against the wall on my other side. If nothing else, these outings have proven that my self-defense mechanisms are wholly nonexistent.

During the course of the night, no fewer than three costumed creepies got close enough for me to feel their breath as they whispered in my ear. So freaky!

Then came what is invariably the highlight of my evening, Bill & Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure. Every year, Universal puts together a production incorporating the year's biggest celebrities/trends/news into a dancing/singing revue. This year's wasn't as plot-driven as some others have been, but I will not complain about any musical that manages to feature:

-Neo (who when he first noticed him did a double take and then mimed some air guitar) and Ted on the same stage
-Saddam Hussein (quite the Christina Aguilera fan) complaining about the militant toppiness of...
-Osama Bin Laden, who enjoyed quite the booty dancing session with Justin Timberlake (hence the quote above)
-the Matrix twins (renamed Ashton and Kutcher by their new employer, a hot-on-her-midlife-crisis Demi Moore) shaking their shapely tushies to Let's Hear It For the Boy
-Jack Sparrow leading the cast in Stayin' Alive

It was so good, we went back for seconds, then even managed to squeeze in a good romp through Spiderman as well as a pitstop at a bakery for a candy apple and some cookies before leaving. After seven and a half hours, I do declare it a righteously bang-up success of an evening.

i wish i could, but i don't have instant messaging. it messes with my computer for some reason. i think the friend in question does, though, so if i could get his SN, would you be willing to send them to him instead?

and yes, i got the pictures of Lance in the kilt. thank you again for telling me where to find them, by the way (i made a whole post out of them ^_^). i am very happy with my findings ^_^. and actually, it's those pictures that really sparked James's (the friend) interest. he's been searching for a while, but since the kilt pictures, he's REALLY wanted some.
