From the December 2003 issue of Bop magazine, courtesy of
stamplet:
Bop: Do you ever start writing a song and then think, "Oh no, I can't record that; it's crazy"?
JC: Everyone's telling me now, "A.D.I.D.A.S. is great," and I'm like, "Are you kidding me?" I just did it for fun. I did it cause I had it in my system and I was just getting it out. We did that song in under two hours, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. It's so much fun to play live. It's silliness, but it's so much fun.
This quote reminded me of a story by Helen in which JC tells Chris that Digital Get Down was a ruse, and he was shocked when the guys asked him what chord it's in. Chris doesn't find this revelation amusing. "It's funny every time we sing it," JC says. I laughed and laughed. And am now beyond charmed that JC sees A.D.I.D.A.S. for the campy, irreverent romp it is and seems genuinely surprised that people are taking it seriously.
From the same interview:
Bop: When is your favorite time to record songs and when are you most inspired?
JC: Late night in the studio is my favorite. We don't have a whole lot of video games, but we've got a lot of delivery places that if you get hungry, they'll bring you what you need. You hope you get inspired. You don't get inspired every day. I just wait for that magical fairy to come and whisper in my ear.
Ignoring that last line since we've all snickered and moved on with our lives already, since JC is not prone to speak in the royal 'we,' I'd like to know who the rest of that party is. Everyone knows the boys' penchant for video games and JC hasn't been working with them recently, so I'd venture he didn't mean them. Hmm.
I'm working on a list of places I'd like to see in LA. So far:
-the Ralph's where Joey and Lance went shopping for the All Access special
-an In 'n Out Burger
-a Trader Joe's, if there is one that far south
-JC's diner/deli thing in WeHo
-a Jack-in-the-Box
And some other places that I swear won't have anything at all to do with food.
The interior of the Spreckles Theater (with thanks to
tallories for the link) reminds me of the stage set the boys were photographed on as marionettes. I'm smiling like an absolute loon just thinking about JC up there. No strings indeed.
This quote has also made the rounds, but I really love his philosophy on the club tour:
"I'm going to grassroots this thing," Chasez told VH1. "To me, I'm at the beginning again and I don't want to take [everything] for granted and say I'm too big for that. I actually want to earn my way up.
"There's just something about [club] shows. I feel like I really have to get in a room like that. My big thing is I just want good vibes. I know I got to do business, but I don't want to be overly corporate. I'm going for something that feels organic and solid and real."
Today was lovely, relaxing. Did Kickbo and grocery shopping with Miranda, read oogobs of TrickC, and will now go watch The House on Haunted Hill with Jon. The things I do for Geoffrey Rush.

Date: November 15th, 2003 07:10 pm (UTC)Okay, that one you'll have to dig up directions for, since I haven't seen the special.
-an In 'n Out Burger
-a Trader Joe's, if there is one that far south
-a Jack-in-the-Box
All three within a five minute drive from my house, and pretty common just about every mile or so. :-)
-JC's diner/deli thing in WeHo
Heh. No prob, it's on the way. We can have lunch there the day of the Sunset show.

Date: November 18th, 2003 08:04 pm (UTC)I'm flying in from Kentucky, which means a stop in the Airport of DOOM (O'Hare) along the way...

Date: November 18th, 2003 08:58 pm (UTC)Oof. Good luck with O'Hare. My experience with it was entirely pleasant, but big airports are always a little iffy.

Date: November 19th, 2003 07:43 pm (UTC)O'Hare tends to have weather problems every time I fly through, but since my layover is already gigantic on the trip out, I'm hoping it won't be problematic. And they do have wonderful restaurants. :-)
