aruan: (well it is)

On the road again.

After some last-minute pantyhose and strapless bra shopping (after being distracted by sweaters - love this time of the season), Miranda and I set out for Orlando. On the way down, during the intermissions of our traditional songfest, we discussed Britney because god knows I haven't done that with enough people all week long. We came to the conclusion that she plays it safe without any real necessity to, which is a shame as she can both sing and command attention. People like that almost have an obligation to be revolutionary, and yet here we are.

Anyhow, we arrived at what we will refer to as the Disney Compound from here on out. Man, it's a good thing Schiz of [livejournal.com profile] giddyupnow sent me scans of her employee ID, otherwise they wouldn't have let us past the front gates. Now, she posted pictures of us at the play Saturday night - tell me, do I (tall, Caucasian, short-haired brunette) look anything like her (shorter, Asian, with black long hair)? I wouldn't have said so, but apparently the gentleman at the front gate thought we passed muster as doppelgangers.

Now, I love theme parks in general, I do, but Disney's style is something special. I love how over-the-top it is, the Be Our Guest philosophy - but I especially love it during the holidays. The foyer of the Port Orleans Resort has been decorated with garlands of holly and velvet ribbons with lights strung everywhere, and a huge Christmas tree in the middle of it all. I just stood and stared as if I were four years old all over again, seeing it for the first time. Seriously, if selling my soul to Disney meant I could stay forever, I'd feel like I got a good deal.

Yet more checking in fun was had at the front desk, but the lady was really accommodating and got us squared away. Continuing our evening of friendly punchiness (we hadn't eaten for over seven hours at this point), we picked up Schiz at Orlando International and took care of that right quick at Planet Hollywood.

Have I mentioned Justin and I would get on great sharing a refrigerator? That Cap'n Crunch chicken stuff is fab, as was my Indecent Proposal - basically, fruity tequila. I'd never had tequila until tonight - deceptive stuff. You don't really taste it on your tongue or in the back of your throat until it's down, then it comes tingling up while warming the pit of your belly.

While there, they showed an extended trailer for Return of the King, which alone was enough to make me tear up. I've been avoiding spoilers, but the preview alone looks amazing. There was also Justin's I'm Lovin' It video, plenty of themed songvids (for the record, we've all seen much better in fandom) and all the boys talking over each other about who knows what - they were adorable just being the puppies we liken them to.

Back at the room, I managed to lose my first contact lens down the drain without any replacements in my case. It's one of those things we all roll our eyes at, so it's just that much more embarrassing to have it happen five years after I started wearing them. *shrug* Oh, and even strung out on little sleep and less food? The day's mindmeld count stands at four. Sorry if we creeped you out, Schiz.

And this, a clip I've been looking for since hearing about it. It's an Access Hollywood segment from Challenge IV, also in Orlando and coincidentally, my very first *NSYNC event. We'd gotten a bit lost in the south of Orlando the day before and found ourselves at Gatorland, where I spotted the boxer shorts Schiz and I are waving (they say Nice Bass.)

Now, that in and of itself is one thing. Me clutching my bosom (and if there was audio, you'd be hearing something appropriately impassioned about Lance) while having been in the fandom less than twenty-four hours at that point? That's saying something.

Not that you all didn't already know I was easy. But yeah, as the record shows, it really was just that fast and hard.

It's never too late to be fourteen.

A closeup of the boxers:

With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] adeadlykiss and Schiz for the clip and [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow for capping.

oh wow how cool is that?

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-24 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't stopped laughing at myself since hearing about it, but to actually see it is such a trip. We didn't catch any of the entertainment show segments that covered CFTC IV because we stayed in town and did theme parks and such after Challenge weekend, so it was only when we got back and one of us mentioned the boxers that someone said they'd seen us on Access Hollywood. We're like, what?! It's wild, man. I'd gotten into town at four o'clock the previous afternoon - they shot that footage sometime around noon the next day. I'd gotten maybe four hours of forced sleep the night before, having been unable to put down Fragile, Too Many People Out of Love, Stick Shift Reverse, and Easy Come, Easy Go. Wonderful memories.

that's so exciting though!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-24 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so exciting in such a dorky way. It's like having a walk-on guest spot on a favorite television show. I mean, Access Hollywood! We're practically part of canon. Or you know, something. *g*

[identity profile] powrhug.livejournal.com 2003-11-24 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
god I'd be so thrilled..I don't blame you for being excited about it. And thanks for sharing it.

Lookit you on TV waving boxer shorts! *g*

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I am such a goofy kid, honestly. And you'll get to experience it firsthand next week! But, Access Hollywood - for reals, yo, that's almost like being part of the fun! Disney this weekend was actually something of a slight disappointment in that most times I go field tripping with friends, I/we somehow manage to get our mugs on television - the local news, a sailing documentary, The Tonight Show, this, NBC's Today, TRL. Can you say magpie? ;)

[identity profile] tallories.livejournal.com 2003-11-28 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Forgive me, but tell me again - which shows will you be at?

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-30 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
All three, baby. Fourth row for San Diego, best a little elbowing can buy at the Houses of Blues. You'll be with Alicia, which means you'll be with me and Schiz. ;) See you soon!

[identity profile] tallories.livejournal.com 2003-12-01 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweeee-eet! Can't wait to see you; have a safe trip!

[identity profile] plumsnickety.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! They are pretty fabulous, and it makes me think we need some sort of documentary about people's first experiences...the ones that come within 24-48 hrs of being in the fandom. Think of the hilarity that would unfold!

I'd count mine as jumping up and down, eyes bugging out of my head, pointing frantically at the Knights benches so Val could realize that she was like right freaking next to all of them. That and figuring out most of the pairing names whilst sitting on uncomfortable rocks on the beach. "Trickyfish? Wha? Oh, I get it!"

*g*

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
The reason your conversion process amused me so much was because it was so much like mine in so many ways. Except we didn't wait until bedtime to show you the good fic. ;) But yeah, this was wild, less than twenty-four hours and I'm squeeing like a teenie about Lance - that loyalty was formed fast.

TrickyFish is the best name for a pairing in any fandom I've come across. It's just good fun, like this fandom exemplifies (on its good days, of course.)

YAY You found caps!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've got the entire video clip, but yes, found it at last. I must've seen it maybe ten times by now, but it's still amusing.

[identity profile] timberho.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
That's awesome!

[identity profile] giddyupnow.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
On the subject of mindmelds? Nah? Used to happen all the time with my co-LJ owner. I figure if don't end up with some of the same thinking processes after hanging out with someone consistency over a large set of years, *then* I should be creeped out. Cuz then you'd prolly be, like, a robot or something.

And the caps! Hee!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
Those caps, man. I still remember how I felt being there, having bought the shirt but still harboring doubts and shame about the whole thing. But the Lance love? Instant and unconditional. Obviously, the rest eventually followed, but it's so amusing to see myself that early on and just the enthusiasm in general - I haven't actually seen myself in the act of being a fan until right then. And yo, we're on Access Hollywood! It's like we're part of canon or something. *g*

[identity profile] giddyupnow.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
*stares at the comment she wrote earlier this morning* Really, I should just lock my keyboard before noon, because I end up typing stuff like that with missing words and substituted words and weird punctuation and it's really quite embarrassing to see afterwards. Sigh.

I think most people, upon seeing themselves being a fan, would probably have to put a paper bag over their heads. Therefore, I am happy to hear that you've taken it on with pride. *g* Wave it proud!

[identity profile] fucking-jc.livejournal.com 2003-11-25 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha!! That is so funny! But dude, what's with the sourpuss-y (*snicker*) looking girl on the bottom right? Tsk tsk. Sheesh, ya try to spread some love by waving around some boxers made for the Bass Ass and what do you get in return? Puh!

;)

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-11-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No clue about the girl, yo, but obviously she's not having half as much fun as Schiz and I. ;) So much fun, man. And a little wicked cool, if I do say.
