Okay, I'm just going to sum it all up.

My only issue was that Bruce was selling the clips for a profit. If he'd made them available at cost, I wouldn't have cared if he'd asked to use them or not. Heck, I'd make the CDs myself if someone asked. I'm glad people have kept my name attached simply because it means people have been getting back to my journal to say how much they're loving them. But I don't care if they don't, so long as they're out there sharing them.

However, Bruce's calling me "greedy" for not sharing the clips extensively enough on my own and objecting to his solution of turning around and charging people for them? Fuck that. Obviously, the solution here is that I need my own webspace to make it more available, which don't think I'm not looking into doing right now. I've bought from him before, yes (for the record, all TV appearances and nothing commercially available), and most of his stuff really is doing a service to fandom - all the rare appearances and such that won't be reaired all in one place and fairly reasonably priced, even when he's not having a sale.

Whatever, man. Anyone who wants it, and I say this with any media I mention, need only hit me up one way or the other and I'll get it to you some way.

[identity profile] jenbeth78.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone else just directed me to his "message". Could he be anymore immature??? And I know the files went round LJ land AND they were up on JJB. How much more widespread does he want it? I also heard they were up at the nsyncstudio board!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Nsyncstudio, really? Cool, I don't think I've ever even heard of that board. *g* Link me?

But yeah, I thought it got passed around good and well. I'm not sure what more he wanted me to do than give everyone who asked permission to upload it as well as posting the original links in another journal with more than double the friendslist of mine. Whatever, man.

[identity profile] jenbeth78.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you can get to it via www.nsyncstudio.com and really unless you want to play with the 12 year olds it is not worth visiting LOL. I just threw that in there because they are always the LAST to get anything and even THEY had it

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*lol* Really, last to know? Cool, glad it's made it farther than I even knew.

[identity profile] ghostoftheyear.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
www.nsyncstudio.com =) (randomly dropped in to read your post and troll the comments. =)

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks and no worries. I'd rather people read it firsthand here than three people down the line.

Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] without-me.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Bruce is calling you greedy?

Fuck that sideways. I don't care how much of a service he does to fandom, that bites.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, his e-mail to me didn't use that specific word, that was a quote from someone else who quoted him in her entry. His e-mail to me went something like this:

Hello! Okay, I removed it from the website and
you just became hated by many NSYNC fans now.

Yeah, words and me right now? Not so much. Gonna go out and get some dinner, maybe a movie, but something far away from my computer for a while. For the record, I never asked him to take it down, I objected to the way he was making it available. But you know what, I'm almost sorry for all of it now. I just want to throw it all in his face and say, whatever man, fuck you and the lousy way you handled this, I don't care anymore, sell it for what you want and just be done with it.

*takes a deep breath*

*walks away*

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] without-me.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs you*

Yeah. Dinner and a movie sounds good. But please, don't let him and his assholery make you feel anything but great about the joy you brought to many, many people. Just because he can't (or doesn't choose to) understand the issue here doesn't change the validity of your position.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs you tight and keeps you*

Yeah, Schiz and I have been chatting, too, and really, I need y'all sitting next to me to remind at irrational moments like this that, yes, he is in fact being rude and an "asshat" and that we've been more than thorough in getting the clips around to everyone, and that ultimately he's trying to turn a profit on something that was meant as public domain. If he were providing a service, he'd be doing what we are, or offering the discs at cost. Sometimes I need it spelled out like that.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] claire.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing to say that hasn't already been said, but I just had to express my deep, deep love for that icon ;)

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankee! Lance and I share that particular descriptive, and he just lends himself so readily to iconing. *g* Yours rocks a pretty lot as well. Mmm, Euro!Sync. *is going to hell*

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] timberho.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No.. don't let him win. What you did is awesome.

*hugsyoutight*

Don't let this bastard get you.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm good. It's fine, I just need to step away. Which, doing right now.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] meinnim.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! Okay, I removed it from the website and you just became hated by many NSYNC fans now.

Wow. Petty much? Nice to know he isn't bitter about it or anything.

/sarcasm

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Whatever, man, sorry to cut into your bottom line, however unimportant you keep saying it is. *rolls eyes* Again, just for the record, I never told him to remove it, just objected to the way (read: the cost at which he) was distributing it.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] digital-diva.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! Okay, I removed it from the website and

Considering the support you got from us here in LJ land, I doubt that very much.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and the thing is there are people who don't know about the JJB or nsycnstudio or LJ who know about him and it would be great for them to have it, too. My only beef was that he was charging above-cost for them. I even would've been okay with some margin given that he claimed to have cleaned them up even more and doing the actual work of burning, but not what he was charging. Also, there was a way to go about dealing with the whole issue, and he's been curt and insulting.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] embitca.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn. I cannot believe this fucking guy. I wish you had just gone ahead and quoted his reply to me. I was out for the past several hours. I should have just left the post unlocked. My bad.

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
No worries. What I was amused by was that the way he phrased it, it was JC thinking I was greedy about sharing audio he hadn't authorized me to record in the first place. So... I shouldn't have done it, but since I did, I should be doing everything in my power to spread it far and wide through all fandom? *shakes head*

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] tallories.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ridiculous. You were kind enough to make those files and spread them far and wide amongst the online *NSYNC fandom. The only thing Bruce is upset about is not being able to sell them for his own profit, hence the little rant on his site. Don't waste your time worrying about jerks like that, hon. *hugs*

Re: Waitaminnit.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Thanks, hon. I'm just done with the whole situation. *washes hands*

[identity profile] afropuff.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Bruce is just ... yeah, a little not happy with him right now.

As for looking for your own webspace ... http://www.1and1.com

First 3 years free
500MB storage
5 Gig monthly transfer.

It's not a whole lot, but it's enough to get the ball rolling.

It's definitely legit, so give it a try.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the link. I'm having a little trouble walking through the setup process, but I'll get it configured and set up soon.

[identity profile] evil-man.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I haven't commented yet because I'm a little behind on lj, but... he called *you* greedy?

Man! That takes a fair amount of stupidity.
I have to say I appreciate him selling all of the appearances that I probably wouldn't have been able to see otherwise, but I definitely have issue with *how* he sells them.

I'm gobsmacked over the whole thing.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Not in our e-mails, that was a direct quote about me from a reply someone else got from him though, yes. In fact, the way he phrased it, it's JC who's upset with me for getting greedy about sharing them. Not that he authorized me to do it in the first place. And wow, that really is as ridiculous as it first sounded to me, good.

Done. Just, done. And yeah, I've bought from him before, too, same as many others and have been grateful for what he's provided. But the way he's gone about this whole mess from the beginning has been wrong and unnecessarily petty.

[identity profile] crownzeal.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Driving by to read the comments and your post. Thanks for sharing your side of the story.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't want people to think that any of this mess is because I'm being five years old on the kindergarten playground refusing to share my toys. Please, have at them, in any way at all even if that means asking me for a copy directly, a post and point I'll make again shortly as soon as I have my webspace set up. I hope that's been abundantly clear, but he keeps insisting that I'm just being immature because I don't want him to turn a profit on something meant to be public domain.

[identity profile] megansync.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He has been very nasty to me before, too. I had problems playing dvds from him and he told me to go find somewhere else to play them! Since then, I haven't purchased anything from him!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he keeps saying he's a fan too and the business side doesn't matter, etc. Bullshit. Whatever, I'm done with this ordeal.

[identity profile] fickwalker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, out of my depth here but I wanted to take the oppourtunity to thank you for the media files you supply. I'm in Australia and we sure as hell don't get half the stuff people overseas do ...

So this dude, Bruce, who says that you are now hated by many Nsync fans can kiss my pale ass. If it weren't for people like you, some of us wouldn't even know this stuff existed.

So yeah ... Thanks. I'll go now.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for dropping by to say so. It's fun to hear peoples' reactions and how they're loving the clips as much as I am. Because my heart belongs to JC's 80s rock-influenced musical irreverence. Bow down, yo. And I really thought we did a good job of circulating the clips between LJ and the JJB overlap. And I'll say this again, my only issue was the profit he was looking to turn on something that was meant as public domain.

Anyway. You're entirely welcome, I'm glad you got them and are enjoying them.

[identity profile] fickwalker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I noticed when visiting Bruce's site, that he'd taken down Justin Live in London gig because the dvd comes out on the 16th of this month.

I couldn't help myself.

Just shot him an email asking why it was alright for him to chuck a tanty about taking down audio that, technically, hadn't even been released yet when he quite happily removed copyrighted material in anticipation of it's legitimate release date.

*ahem* Sorry again. This really pissed me off.

As for the clips ... *is dead* I don't like them, I freakin' LOVE them. I cannot wait for the first week of February - ie: release date for JC's album in Australia.

Okay, really going now. Don't mean to be a pest.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Chuck a tanty" wasn't one I heard in my week and a half in Australia, but how fun! I might appropriate that one, too, along with "no worries."

The distinction is Justin's show is now commercially avalable, whereas these are bootlegs and really, no one who would pay for a CD of them wouldn't buy the official record when it came out.

You got the good quality clips, right, after they've been equalized into stereo? And yay that you're getting them so soon after we are!

And not at all! You've been lovely. Do drop in again. :)

[identity profile] fickwalker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If the clips I have are the bad quality ones, I think the good quality ones would probably blow my mind.

Excuse my failing memory, it was rendered useless after listening to those clips. I believe I downloaded the clips from [livejournal.com profile] fuskeez who had uploaded them. I made sure to thank her.

And yeah, 'chuck a tanty' is one of my favorites. *g*

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If the sound is coming out of both speakers and you don't have to turn the sound up to hear them, then you're set.

*g* I, too, was speechless the first time I heard them. They actually sound better than the live show - there was a lot of bass that the microphone somehow didn't get overwhelmed by.

[identity profile] topaz119.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Just surfed in off of friendsfriends to make the point that no, you're NOT hated by many Nsync fans. I downloaded from Schiz and commented/thanked there (which I'm sure got passed along) but thought I'd reiterate here. Thank you!

I shared around to as many people as I knew who don't do lj or the jjb and who aren't gonna have the chance to see a club show any time soon and we're all pretty much loving you right about now.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Schiz did pass them all along, thanks for dropping the note. You're very welcome! Thanks also for sharing with others through non-regular channels, and I'm glad to hear they're being enjoyed. I just know how sublime I felt listening to the show and wanted to give some of that to the community. :)

[identity profile] fucking-jc.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
:|

What. An ass. I'm sorry hon, I know you worked so hard trying to make them available to everyone. We all appreciate it! That guy's a money-hungry bastard =/

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I just stood there in a sublime stupor for two nights, came to my senses the third, took a big risk and got lucky. The rest was done by Schiz. We just loved it a lot and as far as I'm concerned, the clips belong to the fandom, no strings (pardon the pun). But thanks for letting us know you liked them. :)

[identity profile] fucking-jc.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole thing just worries me because personally, I believe audio taping is fine, because it kind of preserves the experience of a live show, seeing as how it can change a bit night-to-night. But when some guy tries to make more than a shiny penny off of it, it brings negative attention to... the craft I guess you could call it. TV appearances are one thing, ya know? Plus I am not down with his whole blaming you thing. You and others have done nothing but share the files as best they could.

[/end rant] lol.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Trading of bootlegs within the fandom is a time-honored tradition. But when someone is looking to profit from it, unless he's doing mass production with the authorization of the person who recorded the audio/video in a way that takes up his/her time and resources enough for compensation, that's something else. Bruce was trying to appropriate something meant for the public domain, one, and two, stood to make a gross profit from it.

Thanks for understanding, and I think between all the people who uploaded/file transferred/otherwise distributed the clips, they really did get around. I wouldn't say all that many people who order from Bruce don't also have downloading access to the clips. And like I said to him, use them all if you're going to do it at cost. *sigh* It's done though. Sad that it had to get ugly and messy, but so it goes.
ext_1813: (basez being tuff)

[identity profile] ms-nerd.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I linked in through Embitca's journal.

I can't believe Bruce. What a big dork. I mean, [livejournal.com profile] reggie_mbq sells BSB footage at cost. They're only 3 or 4 bucks each. He's selling them for TEN dollars each - it's a clear profit. They only expenses he has is postage and blank disks. He just takes what he wants just to make money. He doesn't give a shit about fandom. HE is the greedy asshole here.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. He keeps saying how he's a fan first and the "stupid business side" of his site, but this just shows otherwise. I told him to freely use the clips if he'd provide the disks at cost, but obviously, that's not an option for him.

[identity profile] embitca.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. You are not going to believe what he's posted on his website about this. I cannot believe this freak.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I saw. If you go back and look now, he's so graciously *wipes sarcasm off keyboard* put up the clips as he's cleaned them up (which he claimed to me in an earlier e-mail, when I suggested he do that very thing, that it would take him "close to two months" to upload it all.) To which, whatever. That seems to be my word of the day. Whatever, Bruce.

[identity profile] bright-midnight.livejournal.com 2003-12-14 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's actually Bruce who is hated by a lot of NSync fans right now. You are loved by this one, let me assure you-- I'm listening to the mp3s right now.

There was no excuse for him saying that to you-- maybe you cost him money that he would have made from that CD. But who cares? Those were your recordings, and if you don't want them to be sold, they shouldn't be sold. But honestly, with how much money the man makes from this fandom, the very least he could do is be respectful. It was completely ignorant of him to say that in an email to you.

And to call you "greedy"? After this incident, I think Bruce is the definition of greedy. And that he specifically said that JC would be upset if he knew you had recorded the concert? You've got to be kidding me. JC would love that so many people are enjoying his music.

Anyway, I know you've heard this a lot, but thank you again for recording the concert originally, and then being generous enough to share the files with everyone, and finally for standing up for your principles with Bruce.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2004-01-17 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I can't say either way how JC would feel about knowing that there are live recordings circulating, I can only say that if it were recordings of my shows, having had that record done for forever and not even caring past getting the songs out to the people who have been clamoring for it since he let slip that he was entertaining the notion.

*g* Thanks. It was such a rush to do because, of course I had to pick the night they were actually cracking down on electronics. But it was beyond worth it, and I'm glad it's gotten around because the boy simply must be experienced live. Glad to hear you're enjoying it.
