I went on a quest last night.

Shut up. You move out to Bumfuck, Centra Florida and see how you have to resort to making your own fun. I can totally see why the outrageous whim of creating an internationally-reknown boyband even occurred to Chris, and seemed just entertaining enough at the time to pursue.

Anyway, my adventure.

Happily, our nearest bookstore is not as far as I'd feared, and with the purchase of PoA I, some way or another, now have two copies of all the books. Mmm, yes. I really do want to get to OotP before the break is out. It's also right near the Wellington Mall, which is decidedly the most sprawling and beautiful shopping structure I have ever seen. It's this oasis of pretty in the flat, marshy wasteland. I'll have to check it out for reals before leaving.

Visited the amusement park-sized Wal-Mart as well. Jesus, Mary and Joseph! And all heaven's angels, and the good people of Bethlehem, and all the prophets, and just about everyone mentioned in Genesis! Because you could fit them all in there and still have to play Marco Polo to find anyone. The place is enormous. The freezer section alone made my knees weak. And the cereal aisle! They needed two aisles to fit all the varieties! I've never seen the berry version of Count Chocula! Scored Looney Tunes cereal, and really, there's nothing like a bowl full of rainbow-colored spheres of fruity goodness. Scored some champagne for New Year's, sparkly metallic markers, a fantastic bra, and...

Prince's Purple Rain. Holy my good god. Why didn't anyone tell me about this album? It's the most cracktastically joyous thing ever! No nevermind that I like JC's version of Let's Go Crazy better but can't possibly love When Doves Cry any more, the entire album is one fantastic romp of 80s goodness that's reawakened something dormant inside my very soul. It's. I. Yeah. In a very, very big way.

CFTC VI in Miami, you say? I feel for all my friends who can't make it and wish you all independent wealth before July. Personally, since I live an hour and a half away now, the only benefit is knowing the lay of the land. If anyone needs info about hotel locations/geography/logistics/driving times, feel free to drop me a line.

I baked biscuits for lunch. Well, I cracked open a can of Pillsbury and preheated an oven. But, biscuits! And tea! And yeah, I might be very very lame in the kitchen department. I plead college student.

Caught the middle of the last half of Sorcerer's Stone and the beginning of CoS on one of our cornucopia of HBOs this morning. *fans self* Harry/Draco, man, it's a wonder Rowling isn't suing Chris Columbus for "corrupting" her vision.

Also, I woke up this morn-- yeah, okay, afternoon, craving epic Bassez. Not AU, but current, real life Bassez. My friends are a corruptive influence.

I kid! *smooches [livejournal.com profile] without_me and [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow anyway*

It might just be because I want to be finished writing it.

I'm always craving Bassez, so let me know if you find the epic you're looking 4.

I've never been to Miami, but can only assume it must be hotter than hell down there. Can't wait!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, there's oogobs of epic Bassez out there. Teaching AUs, high school AUs, gangster AUs, pleasure slave AUs, porn star AUs, lalala, on and on and yes, definitely not an underrepresented if somewhat marginalized pairing. Just nothing set in this universe that I can think of right just now, although I haven't gotten through all the SeSas just yet, so there's hope there.

Really though, on my own time I'm a JoLa girl. I've just been hanging out with the Bassez kids too intensenly. ;)

Miami is fairly hot, but it's tempered by the seabreeze and last year, we had a healthy cloud cover for all of Skills Challenge which was held out on the beach, so not too much with the bad there. Plus, boys in bathing suits! And Lance stripping off his shirt every two seconds! Aah, fond memories.

[identity profile] without-me.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
*smooches you back, on principle*

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* You know you've got an airport ride again if needed, no matter what ass o'clock in the morning it might be. Can't wait!

[identity profile] without-me.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww! Thank you! I may take you up on that.

[identity profile] silveryscrape.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)

If you like Purple Rain, then you'll like 1999, too.

that sounds like a logic problem: if=then. hee!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It was actually between Purple Rain and 1999 last night, and the former only won out because of When Doves Cry. But definitely, yes, and also more Duran Duran (not that I don't already own a healthy amount), the Police, and... recommendations?

Aah, logic. Sixth grade. Loved it, looking into taking it for my math requirement here at UF. :)

[identity profile] silveryscrape.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Logic made me want to spit. I came to my logic classes from a background in english, so my idea of logic was coherent metaphor. :)

Hmm! Music recs? 80s bands, I take it? Talking Heads, especially Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues. B-52s, DEFINITELY. Um. Parliament/Funkadelic. Michael Jackson, hee. Tears for Fears. INXS!! Yes. The Clash.

I have to go listen to music, now.

[identity profile] canadiankracka.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I adore your entries. They make my day, I swear lol

I guess I'll be seeing you in Miami, huh?

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaw, thanks hon. Glad you find my random espousing on oversized retail conglomerates and pretty boys amusing.

Oh, definitely you'll be seeing me in Miami. I've been to the last two, wouldn't miss it for the world. I'm soaking up all these appearances to make up for coming onto the scene so late (Challenge IV) and never actually having seen them perform together. I've got hopes higher than the heavens for this one though.

[identity profile] canadiankracka.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot wait! Is it July yet? lol

[identity profile] meinnim.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Prince's Purple Rain. Holy my good god. Why didn't anyone tell me about this album? It's the most cracktastically joyous thing ever!

There's also a Purple Rain movie. I never watched it in its entirety though. Mostly I saw montages from the movie that were slapped onto a music video.

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard about the movie in passing, mostly in hushed, disappointed tones. However, I will have to confirm it for myself. Purple Rain! So good!

[identity profile] giddyupnow.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Psst! Do you still want the liner notes to Home for Christmas, Celebrity or In the Zone? Cuz I have extras, now that I've started replacing the set of CDs I lost in transit to NY :-) Lemme know and I'll pack them for this weekend!

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, liner notes! Yes, please, to all of the aforementioned. *nods emphatically* But be careful with them this time!

Oh, and I'm going to need your flight information again. If we don't cross paths on AIM, drop me an e-mail, 'k?

[identity profile] giddyupnow.livejournal.com 2003-12-30 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
My phone arrived today, with yummy chocolates! Thank you so much, for both. Mrrr.

My flight:
Delta Air Lines Flight 2540
Departing: Los Angeles Intl. (LAX) Thu, 01/01/04, 10:35AM
Arriving: Orlando Intl. (MCO) Thu, 01/01/04, 6:08PM

If I get my new copies of NSA, Stripped and Emotional Technology in time, I'll bring the extras of those as well. If not, they'll be sent after I get back :-)

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-31 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
I was trying to think of something more creative to include, but all my contraband is up north. However, you shall have enough Hungarian chocolates until next Christmas when you come because, well, yes. ;)

*scribbles down info* Got it. I'll either be circling or waiting for you inside, depending on when I arrive. Just give me a ring.

[identity profile] giddyupnow.livejournal.com 2003-12-31 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotcha. All packed, now just sitting here watching the clock... :-)

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2003-12-29 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I woke up this morn-- yeah, okay, afternoon, craving epic Bassez. Not AU, but current, real life Bassez. My friends are a corruptive influence.

Yessss... it is all proceeding exactly as I planned...

I mean! Hi! How can I help you in your search for the epic Bassez? I don't have my bookmarks on me and am too lazy to go looking (though I will later), but there's [livejournal.com profile] nopseud's The Wedding Cake Theory and S.A.'s Queer Shoulder To The Wheel Challenge story that was just posted a bit ago. I know you've read both of them (right? ...right?!), and I'm trying to think of more, but as I wail constantly, there's just too damn little of it.

Oh! A Slow Beating Between Them, because, hello. ::has no brain:: Though, er. That's an AU, and apparently not what you're looking for. But I really will try to think of stories you haven't read that I haven't already passed on. You interested in Arsenic's hurt/comfort ode to the pairing? Hmm. ::trots off::

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-30 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
You know, for a pairing reportedly so marginalized, there's an awful lot of Bassez fic. You can't talk to me about lack of fic - if anyone besides the Choey people can complain, it's the TimberTone and JoLa people. All this talk that it was high fashion a couple years ago. Pssh. Rubbish.

Anyway, yes, I've read both of those stories and missed Advertising the day Tiff Rawlins posted A Slow Beating Between Them to read it, if you'll recall. ;) I do hurt/comfort willingly and like Arsenic. Bring it all on.

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2003-12-30 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read both of those stories and missed Advertising the day Tiff Rawlins posted A Slow Beating Between Them to read it, if you'll recall.

I'm not likely to forget. Which is why I'm looking for ones you haven't read.

[livejournal.com profile] bettyp talked favorably about the signal-to-noise ratio for Timbertone in the DWNOGA stories this year, and I'd have to say that's one of the most frustrating thing about Bassez fic; you'd think there's a lot of it, but a lot of it is crap crap crap. Plus I'll be honest and say there'd never be enough. :-p

Ode ::brings it on::

[identity profile] gjstruthseeker.livejournal.com 2003-12-31 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I've actually read and recced Ode in my journal before, but it's been a while. I was craving Stay the Night yesterday, which will definitely need remedying. I'm trying to get through the SeSas before authors are posted. Have I mentioned how sick and sad this absolute waning of interest in TrickyFish on my part is? All those shiny stories. And there's a reason why the TimberTone archive is called The Best Pairing You Never Wrote. You know my thing about that pairing though - it's a strictly baby!Sync phenomenon. But we shall see what the SeSas have in store.
