A belated but very bon anniversaire to [livejournal.com profile] plum_evil. Remind me to send you Get Up Kids. I think you'd dig 'em.

Everyone should go read this. The comments, too. Just, yes. Also, this, because if there's one impulse I have to continue to quash in popslash besides the Bassez reflex, it's second-person point of view. Interesting points as to why it might not be just me, which is always reassuring.

With that, fandom news!
- Our best guesstimates of Joey's wedding date conflict with Justin being scheduled to appear at the Shark Tale premier in Italy. Personally, there's really no contest at all as to where his priorities lie in that scenario.
- There is rumor of a video for Who Am I and a benefit concert by Chris & co. aka Little Red Monsters in Orlando come November, the prospect of which makes me giddy all over again for solo!club!tour! season.
- According to KnoxNews.com, the biggest disappointment in Justin's young life is "realizing his biological parents weren't Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross." Bwah!
- Lance will be lending his voice to an electrician on a new Disney cartoon.
- I see [livejournal.com profile] afropuff's "!!!!!" and raise y'all an oh.my.god. Fannish holy grail, anyone?
- Your required fandom reading for today.

Started what is tentatively being called the Cabin Karaoke series. You see, I sing in my car. Loudly. Not when there are passengers, but I don't usually have compunctions about fellow motorists raising eyebrows or smiling along to my antics. Anyway, any commute in this town is about 7-10 minutes, which is just enough for a rehearsal and one take, and I've begun recording myself via LiveJournal phoneposting. There was Yeah on Monday, Tainted Love on Tuesday, Uptown Girl on Wednesday, and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous yesterday afternoon. The second one isn't quite as likely to make great-great generations of relatives roll over in their graves, but it's not good enough to post publicly.

[livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow rocketh righteously for scoring me a planner from the Honors department. Best ever! Well, right behind Athens/Rome slash, because that's just genius beyond measure, but yes, great little planner over which I spent a good half an hour transferring all my appointments/show premiers/DVD and music release dates with a chai latte. Oh, Starbucks. Coffeemaker in the house or not, I remain, as ever, your loyal addict.

Last night was great. Gorgeous sky, firm establishment of Roommate Night over burritos at Moe's, and so, so much squealing over a Google image search for Kirk and Spock pictures that Miranda and I had to close my door lest we wake the rest of the house. Just when you thought things couldn't get any gayer, they add gold sashes. It's fantastic beyond measure.

In current news:

Graphic thanks to Miranda and the National Weather Service. The bottom red X is Hollywood (Miranda's people), the middle is West Palm Beach (my people), and the top is us in Gainesville.

They finally decided to close UF today yesterday morning. Now, if a Significant Weather Event were headed your way, you'd want to hide under your bed with your teddy bear without worrying about Microeconomics, too, right? Honestly.

The storm slowed down over the Bahamas and won't be here until tomorrow night, but we've got the rain and wind of impending doom going strong out there. Inside the storm itself, it's down to 115 mph from 145 on Tuesday, but it's also slowed considerably so it'll take much, much longer to pass over us which greatly increases the likelihood of flooding - 10-20 inches predicted. They've reversed traffic in the southbound lanes of I-95 and suspended tolls on the Turnpike for the exodus out of South Florida - 2.5 million, the largest evacuation ever. Would've been a great weekend for me to go home and visit the folks, save about $30 except for, you know, the hurricane and there not being any gas to stop for along the way. My dad and brother had to syphon gas from my mom's old car into her new one because all the gas stations back home are out of gas. Also, in a fit of at least three different kinds of irony, there's a new system in the Atlantic... named Ivan. Maybe I should've labeled the cut tag Fucking Florida. *sends good vibes to Orlando*

Also, this picture? Seen it before. Of Mulder and Scully. On which point, I recorded the Sci-Fi Channel expecting six hours of vintage Trek - got Kolchak: The Night Stalker instead. !!! Mah roots! Can't wait.

Oh, and GIP - new default. Again thanks to the uber-awesome Miranda.

You're absolutely correct - I read your comment on the topic. I'm only saying that if that specific reason is what stands in the way of Justin attending Joey's wedding, I'm going to be disappointed if it's true. That's just me. I don't believe Justin has anything but love in his heart for the guys - he wouldn't miss the wedding out of something stupid like spite that he'd use the event to cover up.

I mean, if he were, I don't know, committed to a touring schedule - which I understand is what a press junket essentually is, the difference here being is that he's not the star of the show but a fairly marginal contributor - that'd be entirely different. He has a show that night, no, he can't just up and cancel because Joey's finally set a date. But the scenario, as it is, if that's the truth? Would disappoint me. That's all.

As far as the he's evil comments, there are people who believe that way, but I'm not one of them. He'd be stealing the spotlight if he went? The kinds of crack people smoke, man. If anything, I'm disappointed by Justin not owning his past, but that's the extent of my feelings on the topic of Justin and *NSYNC. I've thought he should acknowledge the group at certain points, but not at every turn, not when it comes to his solo work, etc. I even understand why he doesn't, but I also believe there's a way to acknowledge his past that doesn't hurt the street cred he's spent so long building. He's buying into the press' version of *NSYNC, their background and history and popular opinion, and I admire JC's refusing to just say 'yeah' and moving along when the topic is raised. But Justin's not evil, even if I don't sometimes agree with his overt methods (keeping in mind that I don't know all of them, nor necessarily the motivation behind them).
