Someday, I will go to bed before 6:30 in the morning.

That day, however, is not today. It will have to come sometime soon though - this napping away my afternoon to make up for it business is not going to fly for much longer.

What did happen today was my managing to get ready for Law in ten minutes and huddling with Miranda under her umbrella at the bus stop, switching my shampoo back to Biolage (and why oh why, since I know so well not to, do I ever stray?) then going out with all the roommates to see the ever-illustrious Mr. Breit and co. do side-splitting improv at the Orange & Brew. And then there were more pints ordered and the marathon of Trek begun.

Now, I understand the episodes were shown out of production order when they originally aired, but they were obviously meant to be seen in production order because watching Where No Man Has Gone Before (third episode on disc one but technically the first episode of the series) and then launching into The Man Trap (first episode on the disc, labeled sixth by production) would give anyone whiplash. The costumes! The acting! The cast! Obviously, Spock had no hand in making this decision when they were planning for this set, and I shall now have to find a by-production-date episode guide and switch DVDs practically every other episode because NBC was on crack when they determined the original order of airing.

In fannish news, it is to cry that there hasn't been a single picture of anyone in a tux, an injustice I wailed and whined loud enough for the whole house to commiserate about after sitting through the drivel that is ET and Access Hollywood. On a happier note, however, I'm to understand Bruce has gotten hold of those eBay tapes and really, there isn't an iota of coherence to convey the breadth of my excitement. Which is special hell kind of wrong, but I'll muster shame when I'm dead. For now, I want to see Justin beatboxing under his breath as he makes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches too much.

You have to remember, as TV shows go Star Trek when it originally aired kind of bombed out. Cult phenom, several conventions later, and we have the current incarnation of Star Trek. At least it is on DVD, what would you do if it wasn't out at all?

Oh, the original series definitely didn't do well in the ratings, mostly because of bad scheduling against immensely popular shows, because it got huge ratings in syndication, which is what inspired Roddenberry and co. to continue the franchise. And don't think I don't appreciate that it's out on DVD, but that doesn't mean I won't grumble about the fourth episode being shown as the tenth and my consequently having to switch DVDs almost every episode to see them in proper order. Which makes such a world of difference - character development, established plot points, even minor things like costumes and posts (i.e. Scotty was only made navigator later, early on he's chief engineer.) Just sayin'.
