Harry Potter theorizing seemed to have reached a simmer today, as we ceased being all het up like we were last night at Don Pablo's and managed to even entertain notions that Dumbledore isn't an evil, maniacal control freak. Imagine that. Sad thing is, all our talk of the past five days seems to have been conspiracy theory at best, as we've yet to come to a stumbling block that can't be explained with Dumbledore not coming out perhaps not the pinnacle of, but certainly not lacking, virtue.

Had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] xalxuffasch at Bonefish Grill, which still has that charming new-restaurant squeak to it, with eager and attentive waitstaff and the manager coming by to ask about our food, which really was quite decent. Their fresh bread though, with the pesto dipping sauce? Outrageous.

It was Maude's then Denny's with [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow after that, at the latter of which we had a fabulous waiter who was annoyed not at all by our having ordered and eaten yet continuing to take up the table (though granted, the restaurant wasn't exactly hoppin') and kept coming by when he noticed our drinks were running low. Lovely chap. Speaking of which, three of the same came over to us around 2 a.m. and asked to join in on our rousing game of Uno. They were funny engineering dorks with good sportsmanship, so we passed a companionable hour, at the end of which they paid for our meal. Dude! I'm getting the hang of this! Be social = Get free stuff. Aah, the joys of womanhood.

Apparently, this is the way my *NSYNC top five shake down:

1. I Want You Back (Blues Version live on the Celebrity Tour)
2. Up Against the Wall
3. Gone & Girlfriend (feat. Nelly live at the 2002 Grammy Awards)
4. O Holy Night
5. More Than A Feeling

The live version of Lion Sleeps Tonight with Lance's intro and their rendition of Happy Birthday to Rosie have very special places in my heart, as do the TIPY, BBB, IGBM Medley (Live at the 2000 VMAs), Digital Getdown and the Bee Gees medley, which never ceases to impress even the most jaded. So there, I cheated with ten. Go ahead and try to hold it against me.

We did a lot of HP theorizing the other day at The Cheesecake Factory, becoming quite loud at times. We mostly concentrated on Snape and what Dumbledore may or may not have told him and why he (Snape) does the things he does. I think it's very possible that Dumbledore is an evil, maniacal control freak.

Ooh, you think Dumbledore gave Snape the 411 on the traitor situation? Interesting. We didn't talk much about Snape except to discuss the extent of his involvement in knowing who the traitor was. My pet theory states that he did, but I'm really not going to try to get into the whys and ramifications just here and now (working on a related project). Would love to hear your thoughts on Snape though.

My thoughts on Snape have more to do with Harry. If he knows about the prophecy, if he knew about the traitor situation, I would think he'd act a bit differently with Harry. I'm not saying he'd be nice, but sometimes it seems as if he's actively sabotaging him. I know Dumbledore trusts him, but I'm not sure anymore that Dumbledore knows everything. Hey, maybe he does, but pretends not to. I do think that Snape is the most complex and interesting character in the books. All I know is that it makes for hours of fun discussion while we wait for Book 6.

That was one of Miranda's and my talking points as well, that if Snape was in on it - a likely possibility - then he should be nicer to Harry no matter what animosity he may have felt toward James. But as far as sabotaging - he's spent a truly inordinate amount of time saving Harry's life in these books. If you meant in the classroom, I hold with something [livejournal.com profile] marythefan suggested, that Snape is intolerant of mistakes, especially in Harry, because he thinks the other teachers coddle the other students and him especially, that when it comes time for him to face Voldemort, which will happen, he needs to be as ready as he can be, and Snape intends to see to that at least in his own classroom.

Why do I not have a Snape icon? *shakes head*

I know, I need a Snape icon, too. When I say sabotage, I guess I mostly mean in GoF when Barty Crouch Jr is in the woods with Viktor Krum and Harry needs to get to Dumbledore and Snape won't let him. You'd think he'd not just worry about Harry breaking rules, and standing in his way just because he doesn't like him, but realize that if Harry needs Dumbledore so badly, it's for a good reason. That's the incident that I just can't reconcile to the rest. Otherwise, I agree with [livejournal.com profile] marythefan's suggesting, or at least I'd like to.

Hm, I'll have to reread that. But that might have to do with Snape's distrust of Dumbledore, or maybe trying to break Harry of his dependence on him, than sabotage. I'm dying to know why Snape resents Dumbledore, who by all accounts was the thing that stood between himself and Azkaban, and who also gave him a job at Hogwarts.

I think the only thing to do is keep rereading, and hope that the June date for HBP is true.

I Want You Back (Blues Version live on the Celebrity Tour)

Ooh, I think I vaguely remember this (there was a lot of screaming, you can't blame my foggy memory). Is there an mp3? One you might put up via yousendit? Puhleeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

I haven't thought about my top 5 list, or 10 even. Up Against the Wall, I Thought She Knew, and the cover of That's The Way Love Goes (from Janet's Icon) would all have to be on it though. Definitely.

I'll get that up for you when I get home. It's fabulous, and the one song of theirs I'd choose to see performed should that extraordinary opportunity present itself.

Love ITSK and yeah, the Janet cover is often one I send to those I intent to convert. They did such a fabulous job adapting it for all five of them.

I haven't yet, but that's because I'm very much of the broke right now. Thanks for the heads up - they're the place I bought my first season DVDs, for the same price, so yay! Should I come into some dinero before the 20th, I'll definitely check it out. We're down to the last four episodes here! And that just won't do at all.
