Last night, I was home before midnight. On a Monday! Before nine, even! Yesterday really was such a coup in so, so many ways - we talked about obscenity in Law of Mass Comm, lunch at Broward was fabulous, I had all the insightful answers during Online Comm as we discussed the definition of what's a document and the Internet being treated and governed like print media in law, wrangled eight points on an exam from a week ago from Foley, who also gladly acceeded to serve as a reference for my resume, Writer Bridget, Desk Chief Natalie and I nearly blew off work when we found out Bridget Jones was released early but settled for swooning over Colin Firth, and Ryan One-of-Three shook his head at us but made a Copy Desk-only Starbucks run anyway. Darling boy didn't even need to ask what I wanted. I [heart] yesterday.

I love how we're all one by one slowly succumbing to Harry Potter fic. It's like the worst kind of crack from the shadiest dealer ever, either totally addictive or the worst trip ever depending on the batch, but we all get there eventually and damned if we don't come back for more depending on your level of masochism - I read all of If You Are Prepared, which I'm sorry to the ladies who recommended it, was among the most unnecessarily drawn-out, cliched, badly written, grating kind of torrid, tawdry romance novel stuff, and haven't lost faith.

That Justin and Keri-girl remix of Headsprung? Awesome. He harmonizes with himself! It's all swoony and booty-shaking good.

Today was pretty cool as well. McKeen, in suit pants and dress shirt and Superman tie, lectured in Ethics about why people hate journalists and the role of pop culture in shaping these misconceptions. Mostly though, he talked, and I took avid notes and hopefully didn't look dreamy enough to draw attention. Redeemed my cards for a free Subway lunch of Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sandwichmmm, and lab was slow enough to allow a few wee naps. Also, my dark-gray-with-pink-pinstripes H&M blazer is even hotter than I knew, one compliment and two check-outs later on my walk home. Rawr.

Fandom Catch-Up!

10.31 - Joey was in attendance at Chris' Halloween party.

10.06 - Off from Heimlich maneuver duty for his poolhall buddies, Justin and Cameron have a tiff with a couple of covert photogs outside Chateau Marmont. Or rather she throws the punches, he says the catty lines.

11.12 - Britters with child? Mazel tov, so far as you care what I think, though some bystander overhearing K-Fed on the phone isn't the way these things should be outed. *sigh* I hope she's happy. I liked this a lot and can only hope for her that it holds a glimmer of truth.

11.13 - ODB died. It's announced that Britters is going back to school at Pepperdine in Malibu. Drama at the MF boards concerning someone claiming to be JC and sending members what I can only discern to be lascivious e-mails. Teeheehee. Smart money's on Joey.

11.14 - JC and Eva are too darling for words. The one of them looking at each other from last night? Almost stopped my heart. There was hands-over-mouth squeeing to spare the roommates' ears. Good that at least one good thing came out of the train wreck that was the AMAs.

11.15 - The $25 Million Hoax is possibly the most inane, painful thing ever, but that squeal you heard? That was me when they showed Lance in the recording booth with Jessie. Hm, didn't know my affections ran quite that... loud. Also, heads up, J - apparently when JC is not putting in waffles and facetime with Monsieur Fatone in LA, he jaunts over to your little villa on the other side of the country for sushi with Eva.

As for the rumor of Chicago for Challenge? Meh. Though I'll always be grateful for it providing a venue for my meeting Michael Rosenbaum and bonding over driving pretty cars too fast, the city's too big and I don't know anything about it.

Now if I could just write something besides gushy LJ entries and the HTML would cooperate even a little bit, we'd be in business.

In the meantime, a little real-world social consciousness.

"[I]f gay people in the so-called heartland are firmly in the closet (and understandably so), then i think the rest of us have an obligation to go there and befriend people and change their minds. i mean, i can be a little bitchy at times, but i don't think anyone who's actually met me would call me more of a threat to america than poverty and terrorism. so let's go dyke up the red states, people. who's with me?" - [livejournal.com profile] athena426

This is a fascinating and possibly worthwhile idea. I read an article somewhere about the civil rights movement and how it was hard to ignore black people because, well, they were very visibly black. And they were your lawyers and and salesclerks and the person sitting next to you in the pew of your church. Gay people, especially in the Heartland, and rightly so for fear of harassment, mostly play it close to the vest, but that's no way to make other people realize just how numerous and just like them they are. Easy for me to say as a white heterosexual woman, but it's a good point.

However, while there's more interim Rake sequel fic (*snogs [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic*) my continued presence here borders on the ridiculous. Ta!

Quotes of the Day:

"I'm thankful that 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell,' by Susanna Clarke, was almost as good as its lyrical first reviews... but it's not Harry Potter for grown-ups, as so many of them said. Harry Potter is Harry Potter for grown-ups, you dweebs."
- Stephen King

"Watching the Madison Square Garden concert. Why did I never notice before how nice JC's butt looks in his space cowboy pants? Probably because no one really looks at the back with what's happening in the front, but nevertheless."
- [livejournal.com profile] seeksasylum

"Don't get excited, he's not over forty-five."
- a cheeky Ryan One-of-Three as he flips through a men's magazine's modeling section as I stood by his shoulder making a phone call

Chicago? In July? Ugh. I really hope that doesn't turn out to be true. Not that it'll stop me (or you, I imagine) from going, mind. Just, yuck.

Yeah, that's what I said. And no, it won't, but it'll crimp our refined style considerably. It's way too early to speculate anyway, so we'll see. Although you know, if they held one this year, there's really no reason why they wouldn't next, eh?

Well, but I doubt this, as a very reliable friend-of-a-friend saw them eating at the Grand Lux Cafe in H'wood on that day.

Or *maybe* they've mastered that tricky cloning thing, at long last, and every coastal region can finally have their very own JC!

I have numerous reservations about Chicago. But I will go. And you've read that Tea series, of course, and everythingeverything by [livejournal.com profile] wayfairer/Aja and [livejournal.com profile] zionsstarfish, yes?

Dude, I just perpetuate the gossip. And it's entirely possible, though highly unlikely, that both those things could be true. But Joey and JC eating waffles together? Yes please, more and stat. *melts*

Ooh, I like your cloning theory better. You'll let me know when signups for the waiting list commence, right?

Oh, same here, definitely. I'll go, but I won't be too happy about it. I'm sure it's a fine city, but eh.

I didn't like A Most Disquieting Tea. *ducks* Though the writing was good enough that I'd go back for more with hopes. And no, I don't believe I've heard of those ladies. *makes a note* Any specific recs?

However, they're both Harry/Draco girls. Shall I proceed with the recs or no?

I'll read anything in Harry Potter, as has been proven. And I liked Transfigurations, so there's that. I'm a Harry/Lupin girl, personally, but Snape with either of them seems to be a winning combination, and I like the Harry/Draco dynamic when Harry isn't all Benevolent Patronizing Father Figure and Draco isn't Stupidly Lovesick OOC. Hit me, baby. As it were.

It's just infinitely amusing for me to see all these staunchly anti-Potter fic people on my friendslist caving one after the other, and then the justifications! Too funny. I just want to tell them all that it's okay, we all know just what they mean. Also, there's no shame in fandom.

Well, rest assured that there are no justifications from me. I am just a pervert. Ask Schiz. ;)

Oh yeah? ;) Me too. Harry/Lupin, anyone? And the Weasley twincest? Come on now, what *else* is everyone in this fandom for? Ahem. I mean, hey! What's a pervert doing at my journal! We run a clean ship here, girlie.

Just so you know, you made me cry. And then I remembered the title of the shorts and relaxed a little. The next time you ever so much as breathe a thought like in the second passage, I'll take the act of rectifying personally.

And of course you know I jest. One, it's entirely and only your universe and story, and two, I'm a wee girl who cries because of a little pretty syntax, so it's not like you wouldn't be able to fend me off with a well-raised eyebrow. But ow. I feared for a moment.

Can one of them even exist without the other? Well, Lance without JC maybe, as it was a small part, but that small part is so integral to the whole of JC and his own magic that he's interpreted and built through it - though is that even significant now that he's a Magus, too?

Also, I love your take on how the guys reacted in the story, as opposed to the alternative in the short. They're boys, and they're sometimes stupid and even insensitive, but they know what it means to mess with things and wouldn't ask for that. Not even with the lawsuit. It would be tainted, all of it, and as badly as Justin may have wanted it after the VMA performance that we all saw left him so frustrated and unsatisfied, Joey was right to stop JC because it wouldn't have been Justin's anymore.

I'm admittedly late to the scene - we were discussing fic in Mississippi (heh, I'm sure one can get arrested for that) and [livejournal.com profile] without_me about had a coronary when it turned out I hadn't read Rake. It's a good thing you finished Glass very soon after, as Rake was about all I could sleep and breathe and think and talk for the next week, unfortunate since my roommate/best friend had already gotten it out of her system when she read it on its original posting. And it's been a little over a month since, and it's admittably cooled to a simmer just under my skin, but there's two things that did stick, and probably will for a very long time - Lance cutting open his arm and tracing their hotel room doors with blood in Rake, and Diane's phone call to JC the morning after his "dream," saying she always knows when there's a Magus nearby. *shivers* Yeah. Suffice it to say I owe you a heap of, you know, actual feedback, but yes. And thank you.

Funny thing is that I don't actually know what happened myself - I don't touch most of the boards but for the rare, rare occasion that I do. I was piecing stuff together from the f'list. So it was dirty e-mails? Wow, how deeply increative. Also, a swift kick to anyone who believed it.

Apparently so, although I've seen that in exactly one place on my f'list, though it's a highly Chris-reliable source. There are, alas, no pictures. Oh, boys. Don't you know how you thrill us with your crazy shenanigans?

Hey, if I can't be funny myself, then surrounding myself with funny people is the next best, logical thing.
