Today may as well've been Saturday for all the official effort and leisure pursuits involved. A grueling double period of movie-watching in Ethics - though Abscence of Malice isn't exactly my idea of a good time - was followed by lunch with [livejournal.com profile] walkingshadow, after which we jaunted over to Old Navy. Good thing we had nothing else planned for the afternoon, as it's worse than Target or Publix as abysses go. Two shirts - including a smashing green/white Oxford - and a knee-length but otherwise thoroughly useless black scarf later on my end, we emerged and made our way home just in time to shower and head back out for official Roommate Night festivities.

We journeyed to Do Art, where I breached new boundaries of creativity - I contest that drunken watercolor painting doesn't count - with a large-ish ceramic cup and saucer, on which I painted French words and motifs (three coats for optimum color, good god!) then spongepainted everything to look like it'd gotten a healthy dusting of cinnamon. And in 7-10 days, I'll have something to show off proudly.

Dinner at Friday's couldn't come fast enough, after which we made our way to Coldstone, where the only way ice cream gets better is when it's FREE, which it was tonight, thank you punch cards. Pumpkin is another seasonal delicacy I will cling and cling to until wretched January takes it from me forcibly for another ten months.

Of the not-so-good:
- I am grateful there's CFTC at all next year. I am grateful there's CFTC at all next year. I am grateful... no really, I am, but yeah, you know, only mostly as I didn't honestly doubt they wouldn't hold one. And yeah, we Floridians have had it good this past few years, but Chicago? In the middle of July? Come on now. But my personal biases against Chicago aren't why I'm bummed. Since incidentals have come up the past couple of years, I'd dearly hoped they'd decide to stick to Florida so I'd finally be able to drag Miranda along to at least the events. *sigh*
- There's no way my Online Comm professor is going to let me use the HP conspiracy theory site fly for a final project, no matter how thought-provoking the concept or ideal/functional the format. It is, however, also the only bit of coding I've been doing for the past week, a habit I should break right quick if I want a decent grade on my official final project on space tourism.
- Speaking of the live-in best friend, she's leaving me for the homefront early tomorrow afternoon. I myself will be here until Wednesday afternoon at least. Don't ask me how I'm going to deal, especially while food shopping alone tomorrow. Also, why are we bothering to put out a paper in a college town on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving again?

Bed you say? Marvelous idea.

It's funny that people keep complaining about Chicago weather in July, but it's no worse than Miami! lol I used to live there, so I would know. Plus, at least you have the breeze off the lake to cool things down a little. No matter what time it was in Miami it was freakin' hot and humid. Plus, if we get lucky (and the end of July isn't usually a super bad time) it could be absolutely gorgeous. When I was back last summer, the weather was perfect. There wasn't even any humidity to really speak of. I'm just excited for the change up. I use this trip as my vacation too and I'm tired of always going to the same place. I think we'll all have a great time if everyone just gives it a chance. :)

Oh, you won't hear me argue the virtues of Miami in July, but the seabreeze, while not exactly keeping you cool, does keep the weather reasonably below 100 degrees, something most major cities cannot claim. It rarely gets into the high 90s, even during the peak of summer, so yes it's humid, yes it sucks, but it's not overbearing and life-sucking like smoggy, polluted big city heat.

Besides not being able to tote my best friend along finally, my issues are mostly because I know my way around both Miami and Orlando very well, and have my own car, which solved so many potential issues for me and those with me. Also, Chicago does not strike me as a vacation destination, but rather someplace people go to make things happen, live their lives and do their business, then get away from when such a time and opportunity arises. *shrug* I mean, it's not like I'm not going if it's at all within my power, but there were lots of reasons I wouldn't have minded keeping to Florida at all.

Yeah, I can see what you mean about keeping it close to where you live. I know that is a pipe dream for me because I don't think they'll ever have it in LA. That's why I like the change up of locations. I know that I will have to travel so I might as well go somewhere knew every year.

There are lots of great things to do in Chicago though and I'm sure the CFTC staff will find them and take us there. And if they need my help pointing them out, I'd be more than willing! lol

*randomly wanders in* (Followed links from hp_costuming, etc.)

I saw an icon of yours, the Remus uncle one. I love it. I was wondering, could I use it with credit? Please?

I felt I should ask. It spoke to me. ;-)

Wow, I'm totally flattered. My best friend makes most of my icons for me, but that's one of mine. So, thank you, and I hope you won't find it rude of me to decline, but I make icons pretty rarely and because of that am quite proprietary of them. And it's one I use a lot for my HP-related posts, so I've come to think of it as being representative of me more than even saying something about "Remus" (as that's - obviously - a still of David in another movie). Thank you for asking though, and if you'd like to post a picture and text, I'd be happy to make you an icon.

I'm wondering the same thing about my company's news site, which I'm going into work at 6 a.m. tomorrow to update. For, you know, the three people nationwide who won't be either a) busy with the race meet or b) already home for the holidays. :)

Exactly. And here, for the three people who had to work until ass o'clock on Tuesday night and couldn't make the drive out. *waves* Eh, it was a good paper, and despite usually liking the company of roommates, having the apartment to myself for a day was fun.
