and i'm left here by the blue glow of computer glare to stare after her in wonder.
she's so fragile. lithe little body, no more than 5 or 6 pounds, tiny bones and tiny proportions, features that will stay that of a puppy's forever, further belying her age and shrewdness.
yet she comes in here at 1:30 in the morning and gives me those big, pleading eyes to which i have to respond by setting aside my keyboard and picking her up to plop in my lap, my left arm curled around to support her front. i hug her to me and she snuggles into the nook where collarbone meets shoulder. i rub her back and head, she nuzzles into my touch. i bend my head to snuggle into her neck, she tils her head up to give me better access. it's completely overwhelming - this impossibly adorable china doll of a creature trusting me, this monstrous thing of infinite height and strength, to be nothing but a gentle giant who'll go out of her way to protect, much less harm her.
and then she looks up at me with those endless pools for eyes and i'm lost to do much but cuddle her closer and shift in the chair to make my lap even more accomodating. she sighs and drifts for a few brief moments, until my awkward keyboard tapping coupled with the inevitable discomfort that comes from lying on hard bone propel her up and back to the luxury of my parents' king size bed.
