Ousted Largo City Manager Steve Stanton has re-emerged as Susan Ashley Stanton - Susan for the name his mother would have chosen for a girl, and Ashley because he's "never met an Ashley who wasn't sweet and kind."

Whether or not the people who knew him as Steve Stanton support his decision, I hope Susan gets the chance she's wanted for people to know her.

Thanks for the picture. I monitor boards for the Orlando Sentinel and Sun Sentinel and have been reading about this since before she was fired. It's amazing how many posters on those boards discussing this are rude and even to the point of vulgar. There was an article yesterday that she is one of 4 considered for a similar job in another Florida city. I hope she gets it.

Really? We may well have rubbed elbows! I was at the Orlando Sentinel SNPA conference and went up to the newsroom to chat with the copy deskers/online moderators afterward - did we meet?

This story has been nothing but outrageous to me since the beginning. I hope she has every happiness, and gets to make contributions to another city that appreciates him. Sadly, I don't think that will be in Florida.

I work from home (in Pennsylvania) This is a part-time job for me. I've been moderating boards for the OS for probably 5 + years. I work with the Topix boards that are linked at the end of the articles. I also moderate the older boards that they still have. I just started moderating the sun-sentinel boards in January. The racism is so much worse in Miami than in Orlando. Of course, when it comes to sex preferences people are rude everywhere. Unfortunately, We end up closing threads quite a lot.

Did you catch any name of the people you met from the OS? I wonder if any of them are people I report to. (Anthony or Rick)

South Florida is an angry place - and frankly, I wasn't feeling too friendly when I went back there last year and it took me a full three minutes and two employees to order a bottle of water at an outdoor mall near South Beach because they didn't speak a word of English. I don't hate immigrants (especially being one myself), I'm just really, REALLY pro-learning English if you're going to participate in this country. Beyond a lot of other issues, the rejection of culture is a big chunk of what people are angry about.

I met Anthony and Rick! Lovely gents, both. Brandon actually worked with them before. They're good people with big ideas, and fortunately get to do more than most with them.

I've worked with/for Anthony for many years. Rick was just within the last year. I always appreciate the support I get from them when posters complain about my moderating. They always confirm my decisions.

I originally started with the orlando sentinel when the boards were on AOL. I worked for AOL for many years. At that time Tonya Hanson was the person who hired me. She's still around, but I believe she works on the entertainment side of the sentinel now.

This is what angers/confuses me about religion. People use Jesus/God to justify/argue that the gay and transgender lifestyle is "wrong." But I see Jesus, in the Bible, as someone who accepts and forgives.

That, basically, is why I no longer attend church and also why I don't currently belong to a religion.

The whole religion thing is full of contradictions, the biggest one being why God would make someone the way they are if he/she thought it was wrong.
