today, I celebrate myself
Sep. 30th, 2002 06:37 amToo old to claim immaturity.
Still young enough to not gain any privilege.
Not enough of anything to command respect, but who is, really?
Twenty, eh? S'aight, there are people who'll attest to my abuses of teenage angst and excess anyway. And truly, in a world where Elton John and Eminem collaborate, where David Lynch is allowed to run loose making films instead of being locked deep within an asylum, where space is the new frontier of tourism, there is nothing but endless possibility.
The new era starts here.
[Edited to add:
11:21 a.m. - Mason's chimed in with his own special kind of $0.02. Thanks, babe. "Real certified adult" though? Not so much. "Old lady?" Not so long as I can still shake it better than you.
12:37 p.m. - Envelopes of love from mum & co. ::hugs:: She really does love me so much. Hopefully somewhere along the way I'll manage to justify the pride and joy she takes in me. And my "little big brother" is kinda awesome, too. Sweet kid when he's not pulling your hair.
12:57 p.m. - My roommate made me cookies! My roommate made me nummy chocolate chip cookies! She, quite simply, rocks above and beyond.
1:03 p.m. -
silentfire sent me Lex! Well, she did, and the fact that he was two-dimensional did not in any measure dampen my joy at her heartfelt message. She was the first to jump on the birthday cheer with a truly FABulous dinner at Woodstock, GA's very own Killer Creek Chop House, which I am not, even in my advanced years, clever enough to come up with all on my own. Has it been eight years? Yeesh. We're getting up there. Love you too, girlie, always.
1:27 p.m. - A whole journal entry to me! I should turn twenty every day! ;) Many thanks to the lovely
popfantastic, whose praises should be sung to the high heavens, or wherever it is they hold pop music sacred.
2:00 p.m. - I've decided that the dinosaurs will just have to go without me walking over their graves today, and instead read my Friends list. {{
mimesere}} The no hassle at club doors will be nice, but there's something that makes even beer taste exponentially better when you're just this side of jailbait for possession of it. Thanks muchly, dahling. Looking forward to reconvening for more.
2:14 p.m. - You know what's monumentally cool? Having people you admire enough to seriously consider dedicating a corner of your 11x15 total living space for a shrine to bestowing the birthday luvin'. Word to STO(k) at
callmesandy. She makes me shiver and squee within the space of a single sentence. Too Many People Out of Love was the second story I ever read in *Nslash, and even though it was entirely AU, her boys still resonate in the best of others' "real world" offerings.
3:20 p.m. - Received elusive card from
xalxuffasch, with promises of cookies en route, even amidst all the crud he's dealing with. Such an uber!cool kid, that one.
3:28 p.m. - Big, bold, and shockingly pink birthday kudos from
shejaty. Them Southern folks sure know how to celebrate. :)
4:23 p.m. - Al remembered to wish me a happy birthday as he handed back our articles from last week. As an extra-special wand swish by the Birthday Fairy, he blamed himself for writing down our meeting time incorrectly (the fault in fact lay with my own sloshy memory) and put all reschedulings at strictly my convenience.
7:32 p.m. -
staystrong caught me on the phone en route from writing lab and offered me her bestest wishes - remembering this little detail in spite of the fact that she herself had a CHM2045 exam not half an hour later, and those things mean business.
7:45 p.m. - I arrive at
walkingshadow's to bright yellow envelopes and offers of serenading. I politely declined, and proceeded to predict everything she said and just as she said it in the card rather matter-of-factly. Because the brain meld thing is just pointless to resist this far along.
8:30 p.m. - We finished embarrassing ourselves at DDR in front of entirely too many people. Out of deference to the elderly, they did not laugh.
9:08 p.m. - After much debate, we arrive at Chili's for the celebratory dinner. It seems to be our place for good times, so that won out over having balloons tied to my hair. Had a fabulous little discussion on fandom and fanfic (whereas here, agreement is of the good. It's worthy to note that should anyone want to partake of our company, you'll have to pass the Te litmus and learn to quote Local Call). We could not muster dessert.
11:55 p.m. - Which ended up being for the greater good! The Coldstone kids are always wonderful, but we walk in less than ten minutes before closing and they burst into a little birthday song at Miranda's flippant mention of the fact, halfway to closing, school night and all. Mmm. Mint chocolate chip ice cream. Eaten in the relative comfort of my car, top down, and over a meaty discussion of Smallville which basically encompassed more than my brain could handle because I ended up crashing as soon as I made to lounge on my bed, spending the night instead saving the world with Joey, Lance, Justin, JC, and Chris. We were guerillas, the last alive, holding our own city. Bad mofos. Strangely pretty though, despite all the grime...]
