so I *didn't* read Harry Potter slash...
Nov. 16th, 2002 03:10 am...mostly because I didn't see it. And then I saw Chamber of Secrets last night. Miranda and I braved heavy rain and Gator Growl traffic but really, if you're not seeing a movie opening night, some of the magic is inherently lost. No pun intended.
So, the movie. Uhm. *Good.God.* I felt so, so pervy sitting there, but there was simply no *not* seeing the Harry/Ron. I. It. Right.There. I think half the reason why was because it was such a pairing of distinct inequality between equals. Sheila mentioned Clark/Pete for terms of comparison and yes, I see the dynamic as working the same way, but that's just not a pairing that exists in my little world. There's the stronger, destined-for-greatness one and the equally unremarkable sidekick paired with the hero in his journey to becoming, but ultimately destined to be outgrown (sorry about that word, I didn't have a better one) as the hero becomes. Which either means the latter ends up alone or in a rocky, unsatisfying relationship with some token blonde. *hugs Harry* He has a chance though, he does. For now though it's their group of two, and it's hellfire for me for even thinking it but *damn.*
Draco reminded me too much of Baby!Spike in every way, including his hapless struggle with harboring the doomed-to-be-unrequited love for the hero. *pets Draco*
Oh, content, right. It was good, and though Daniel Radcliffe's voice is a smidge deeper, it was nothing I couldn't buy as a seventh grader. They *are* getting rather tall though, which makes me joyous. Tall boys! Though it's more of a look thing as I'm 5'6", though more like 5'8-9" with the shoes I wear, and I've done the kissing a guy more than four inches taller than me thing and IMO it's overrated, for both parties I'd imagine. Emma Watson was adorable, though I wish with every fiber of my being that they'd stop playing up the Harry/Hermione, because everyone knows she's meant for Ron. Aah, Rupert Grint. Arachnophobia aside, please ask for more of a spine in the next movie - didn't remember him as quite *that* in need of coddling. The scenes dragged sometimes, and I just wish Tom Riddle didn't have to spend most of his time as Dark Lord Of Ultimate Evil as the exposition fairy because that juxtaposition just makes me giggle.
Alan Rickman is so fucking sexy. Costuming was much, much more flattering to him this time around, and damn but wizard's robes have *never* looked better. And his duel with Lockhart! I about fell out of my seat laughing.
*sipping Angela's lovely lemon tea* Thank you, sweets. The good vibes alone should banish whatever evil pseudo-sickness wave crashed over me this morning.
