Not that I'm originally from Florida - I'm transplanted like most of the people here, though bucking the trend, not originally from New York. We're a cool crowd though, and here are some who can claim the soil as their own:
Jim Morrison - Melbourne
AJ McLean - West Palm Beach
Howie Dorough - Orlando
Rick Dees - Jacksonville
Fred Durst - Jacksonville
Faye Dunaway - Bascom
Sidney Poitier - Miami
Gloria Estefan - Miami
Burt Reynolds - Jupiter
Janet Reno - Miami
Zora Neale Hurston - Eatonville
Wallace Amos (of the cookies) - Tallahassee
The Ringling Brothers (of the circus)
All five members of Lynyrd Skynyrd
John Archibald Wheeler (physicist) - Jacksonville
Fernando Bujones (ballet dancer) - Miami
Norman Thargard (astronaut)
Pat Boone - Jacksonville
Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson and the late Gianni Versace all have homes in Florida. Ernest Hemingway and Harry Truman both lived primarily and most happily on their estates in Key West. There's a large void of a tourist trap in the middle - I hear it's rodent-infested. Oh, and there are a few others who like to hang out here sometimes. If you don't mind the mosquitoes and year-round humidity, you're welcome, too!
