I'm snacking on a pastry I picked up Thursday night. Hopefully, this won't wrong me in the longer run.

Yay to new friends! Met [livejournal.com profile] trixiesfic and [livejournal.com profile] blunaris today for (excellent) brunch and coffee with Diana. Fabulous ladies and fascinatingly fun discussion, especially with the former. Whee! Another hardcore popslasher! Kudos to her on passing the Bar exam, by the way. We talked pairings, fandom, logistics and personalities and history and fic we love and why and so.much.fun. I can't love this fandom enough, there'd be nothing left of me. But just the puppies and the people and the inherent happiness of their medium and the writing - we discussed the writing, which always gets me, the sparseness of the prose, and I *loved* her explanation of why the scene-by-scene versus flowing narrative style is so popular - it's analogous to the way we're treated to glimpses of their lives via appearances or articles or concerts, a patchwork of their life, a timeline versus a documentary. She's into the TrickyFish too and has a very healthy (the wip is of "epic" proportions) appreciation for JoLa. Whoot!

There are patches of snow still present all around the city. They remind me of the resilience of spirit embodied by its people, the necessary tenacity to survive here. If only it was less high-brow. All the culture with less snobbery.

Windchill is a conspiring minion of the devil. No less.

There's the very real possibility that I might be stuck in New York indefinitely due to the impending transit strike. This is an issue only insofar as I have a paper due the 18th for which the book sits in my dormroom because I in fact have no brains. But there may well be deeper issues involved than that. Hopefully something will click, because at moment present, I'm in quite profound amounts of shit as far as that situation.

However, I had real pizza at this fabulously shoddy hole in the wall in Times Square yesterday and that alone eased the worry. It was this chicken/broccoli/sundried tomato/green pepper/onion thing with amazing cheese and incredible crust and I just used up all my superlative adjectives but yes.

And really, where else can I hop a subway and twenty minutes later see a Juilliard production? The King Stag, lovely bit of comedy del'arte and hello, Juilliard actors and yeah, it was exciting good fun. Oh, and while you're in the neighborhood, check out the snowflake chandeliers of the Metropolitan Opera House next door. Breathtaking.

Editor's Note: Vegan coconut chocolate balls? Good stuff. Vegan ginger cookies? Not so much. Live and learn.

I love that I now own a pair of real leather gloves. They make me feel chic and vaguely worthy to walk down Fifth Avenue. Which I did, just yesterday. A very long way, I'm told, from 43rd and Broadway to East 11th and Avenue A. We're resisting the $200 red coat with eyehook fastenings I ran into en route, by the way. Couldn't pass up the hot apple cider at the Union Square market though.

It's probably a good thing that I made that walk once, as I'm seeing RENT again tomorrow if I have to make it in unfortunate precipitation.

And now, we sleep.

ETA: We weren't the only ones! Joey licked wax!JC's cheek! Heh. Alas, as mentioned, they still didn't taste like them.

I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed our conversation - I was worried that we were discussing stuff you'd already talked to death countless other times. And you say it even seemed to have helped with your writing, so yay! Honestly, I had a wonderful time. Most of the girls I know from popslash are primarily Chris/TimberTrick-oriented, which is cool because like we said it's a preference in a domain we love anyway, but it was great to mutually squee about Lance (in Spaaaace ;) and especially the JoLa, which I might have strong opinions about. ;)

Ooh, I just had an idea. I know about the fan jumping Justin at a show somewhere in California or Texas but that's an extreme case - do you happen to recall any sort of lamenting that any of the boys have done as far as their highly-visible status in the pop culture sphere?

Hopefully the paper will be some sort of presentable, if not by deadline then lj posting time. We'll see. It might even lead to a website update! But nothing before Secret Santa, so. Yes. I vaguely recall something about priorities? Indeed.
