All this "can't tell anyone what to like" and "keep your pairing squee to yourself" talk is baffling me. I wasn't around for the JuC/Bassez true believers conflict, but I understand that was long eons ago and I'd hope none of the remaining irrational and rabid fans on either side are circulating around polite society anymore and that people have since chosen to conduct themselves in the kind of egalitarian way that seems to be the spirit behind the pairings being written, the distribution of which seems ever-surprisingly fair. Woo, they grabbed hands - that does not for an official One True Pairing make. Is that what people are saying and why everyone else is up in arms? *scratches head* Joey and Chris rassled at Challenge, I've got about 2083495723 pictures of Joey and Lance in various stages of groping each other, another 2103432532 of Justin and JC making eyes, etc. Seriously, yo, one of my first remarks about the fandom was how cool it is that there are ten pairings and that all of them are being written (with extrapolatable canonic basis, too.) I thought we were past vilifying each other based on pairing preferences.

As for Bassez specifically, I was once of the mind that it was mostly a pairing wallowing in pretty and hot sex and nothing approaching practical, but that's the kind of narrow-mindedness that being widely-read demolishes. Seriously, it's all about finding good writers who love their subjects.

In other news, oh my god! This eggnog stuff is downright fantastic! I've been missing out on this for twelve years? *boggles*

McKeen said my hot button phrase during the lecture on Rolling Stone today, "disposable music," which stirred up all kinds of things so I cornered Al during his lunch hour and we had a great chat about Britney and Prince and Marvin Gaye and The Beatles and the legitimacy of pop(ular, and it's so unfortunate that people forget that that's what it actually stands for) music as a cultural influence. I'm still digesting most of it, and it might evolve into something else beyond the two-page feature on Brit's album I'm working on.

Some of my best friends in this fandom (hell, my best friend in real life!) are Bassez people, yet I've found none of them to be particularly irrational in their love. I don't get the people who are telling that faction of fandom to zip it, to squash their joy and diminish it. *scratches head* Nope, no sense at all. It's a beautiful moment! They should rightly squee! But that doesn't mean they're going to lord it as evidence for their pairing. Come on now. You can believe either way about JC and Lance, but I hope no one is taking any of this quite that seriously.

Let me guess. The JuC people are pissed about the latest Bassez comments because of sunday night?

Good lord people.. lol

Now now, I did not point fingers or place blame. Also, I happen to be both a JuC and Bassez person (though admittedly more the former, but I read the latter eagerly). However, I also have many Choey people on my list, which I almost never read save for Rhys - I do not, however, have any animosity toward any of the pairings and certainly not anyone because of their particular preference. It baffles me that people would hate a pairing to the point where they'd tell people who squee when such a cool bit of canon comes along to keep it to themselves.

I just keep hoping against hope that no one's taking things quite this seriously. Maybe I'm too laissez-faire.

I wasn't placing blame! :)

Just making an observation..lol

I agree with you 100%

I haven't seen anyone telling anyone else to zip it about their Bassez squee. I have seen a bunch of people expressing their lack of interest or dislike or intense hatred of Bassez and the resultant "how dare you say bad things about my pairing and RUIN MY TOTAL ENJOYMENT OF IT!"

I've seen quite a few pre-emptive I-won't-say-anything-about-the-JC/Lance-moment-for-fear-of-having-my-head-bitten-off posts from people on my friendslist, that's what got to me.

Am I too easygoing to be surprised at people saying bad things about any of the pairings that are not their own? Why say negative things in the first place - it was a sweet moment! Which isn't to say people who don't like Bassez should shut it when it gets airtime, I just see it as a waste of breath. Why bother? It happened, and they'll only be inviting a good wanking onto themselves.

Personally, I'm a Joey/Lance girl to the core but not at the expense and certainly not at the disdain of all other pairings. *shrug* Maybe, like so often, it's just me.

Mmm. *gazes at your icon* JC making eyes at Justin. *takes a moment* And look ma, no drama!

If people are afraid to say something, that's really their own problem. As far as wasting breath, I think that pretty much whatever you want to share, positive or negative, is not really a waste of time. It's a community. Sometimes we reinforce community by sharing and bitching about the stuff we hate and at the moment, for me, that happens to be Bassez ;)

Would you mind discussing that some more? Does the way you feel about Bassez come from the occasionally rabid attitude of some of its fans, or is it something about the pairing itself, the way it's characterized in fic, or something else entirely?

'nuff said.

I have no problem with any pairing written well, but I don't read fic by writers I can't abide personally and we'll leave it at that unless you want to email me.

Oh finally someone I know is going to see him! Will there be a full report? I know you will have a terrific time. I'm bummed I can't see him in early December like I'd planned, but since I'm seeing JC on the same night I would have been seeing Justin I consider it fate :)

I figured after nearly everyone I know in the fandom has already seen him this year, nobody would be waiting for a report from me! But I do expect I'll have a marvelous time!

I'm just curious as to whether he'll have changed up the arena show at all on his second leg. I haven't seen any reports yet.

...JuC/Bassez true believers conflict...

Now that's one fluffle I'd love to hear more about!

It's a lot like the LotRiPS mess that went down with the Domlijah and Billy/Dom people. As far as I've come to understand, back when the fandom was just getting into the swing of things, those were the two pairings - that's all that existed, and you were either on one side or the other and whenever the two met, there were inevitable fireworks. They both believed their pairing was the One True Pairing and everyone else were blasphemers and fools.

*rolls eyes*

I don't know when this ended but apparently, the resentment and prejudice toward the pairings still lingers. And Justin/JC and Bassez are both such problematic pairings anyway because they're usually written quite tackily, which doesn't help. Anyhow, that's the short of it, from what I've gathered.

Ah fandom, how I love thee.

Thanks for the info! Good to see I didn't miss much by joining the madness late. ;-)
