With a boy, whom I haven't known most of my life (as it happens when you have conjoined elementary/middle/high school campuses.)

Why yes, this would be my first "real" date.

Mike is a senior, tallish but slouches (and really, are there any who don't?) He has dark brown hair that's just long enough to make me want to card my fingers through it. He has a great smile that makes him about three times as handsome as he already is, and I just.

*takes a moment*

He borrowed my notes last week because he'd missed Wednesday's class, so I had his phone number from that. I'm surprised I managed that much - I hadn't even seen him walk in or sit down, even though he was right next to me. So he leans over to my desk and asks if he could borrow them - my reaction time must've only been delayed by a second or two, because he didn't give me a funny look when I finally managed a 'yes.' And as we were standing up, I remembered to ask for the number in case he's flaky or whatever - I wanted to make sure I got my notes back. But mostly, I just squeed to Miranda that the cutest boy in class had asked for my notes and regressed about six years.

So I come in almost late today and he smiles as he hands the notebook back, and I gulp a little because yeah, he's even better-looking without the backwards cap from last week (did we mention the hair?) And the entire class (well, no, not the entire - I am taking it because the Revolution is my favorite era in American history) I'm sitting there thinking up the best way to approach him afterward, what I could say, etc. I was totally going to do it, too. No, really.

But he beat me to it.

"How was your weekend?"

He asked me how my weekend was. I'm so mystified by the whole asking out process, the song and dance people talk about when all I've ever done was pass notes in class and tell a few loose-lipped friends I liked a certain someone. And all he'd done was ask how my weekend was, and we walked away with a promise of dinner.

It's such a rush to be attracted to someone like this again. I've mentioned the vibing thing I do, and he seemed to take my vocabulary (I actually say words like 'predilection' in everyday conversation) in stride, which is always cool. He took French before, too, and lived in Fletcher, the hall adjacent to mine, so there's some starting common ground right there.

So, yes. Excited, a bit nervous, but he seems laid-back which takes a lot of the potential pressure off. We'll see. I've got hopes.

Eeee! Dates are so fun! I can't wait to hear the recap. Did you guys set a firm date for your date? *g*

And see, me with my reluctance to approach people, this is a bit nerve-wracking. But I'm excited! We had a good conversation after class before he asked, so there's that. It's just a matter of picking a cool place to chill for dinner.

Tonight! My last class ends at six, and he's gonna call me around seven. Eee!

Man, that's so fun. And your good conversation before he asked bodes well! My first date with the current boy lasted like 5 hours, because we couldn't shut up! I bet you guys talk the night away.

Eeee! I'm excited for you, lol!

Sounds promising!

Have fun!

It does! I'm a bit anxious, having such a bulk of my interests lie where they do and that being a bit taboo in most circles, but he doesn't need to know that up front. And besides, if there's something there, a penchant for pop music and culture should hardly be a dealbreaker. *g*

Thank you!

Ya know, I dated a guy once and out of no where he told me he liked NSYNC. He had an awesome system in his car and there was nothing like blaring Bye Bye Bye in that car. lol

That's so fun! People do surprise you, and I can't claim to know anything about him from a five-minute conversation. I love the 'anything possible' stage of things.

Aaah, blasting their music from cars. *is well acquainted* Great driving music, yo.

Sadly, I do not, only extensive screencaps. They're discussing Challenge, obviously, but the screencaps would make you think they were actually holding a coming out conference. ;)

I know! So exciting. This campus tends to be a bit aloof in its everyday workings, and I don't like the clubs downtown (don't let that word fool you, the entire thing is about three blocks square) since they closed the two that played music I'd actually want to dance to, so meeting new people is mostly limited to classes, which are again mostly huge and impersonal. Which are all fairly lame reasons for not being proactive until now, but I mentioned in a post earlier in this semester that I'm feeling like I actually want to be making the effort and undertaking incorporating a relationship into my life. So it all happened not only strangely easily, but weirdly well-timed.

There's actually a theory about the universe sending you things when you put out there that you're ready for them that I'm sorely tempted to stay away from citing. But yeah, I think I'm going to enjoy tonight.

Thank you!

My campus was much the same, but almost for the opposite reason--it was so small! I think classes are a great way to meet people since hopefully they've got at least a small interest in the class and that's why they're there.

Your theory about the universe sending you things when you're ready is so very true. We won't cite it here, but we shall reference. ;)

Have a wonderful, wonderful time.

Oh, I've mostly forgotten what they're like, too. And with my previous experience being with people I more or less knew something about, this really will be something new. Here's hoping I don't come off like a total dork. Or if I do, at least a cool one. *g*

Thank you!

It's not that I haven't had boyfriends and actual relationships before, but an actual, mostly blind date? That will be a first. Going into dinner knowing you already like the person is one thing, which is what I've been doing until now, so this is exciting and a little nerve-wracking in its own way.

Thank you!

You will give us the full run down when it's over, right?!

Oh, full rundown (forgoing any unforeseen incidents of extreme dorkitude on my part) to come, definitely. Any way it goes, this will be my first real outing with a completely new person, and that alone is worth documenting. It's not strictly new in the sense that I've had relationships and been on dates before, but never with someone I've yet to actually know anything about. So, eee! A little nervous, a lot looking forward. Just stepping out feels good, you know? Feeling like going out is a priority again, that's really cool.

I'm living vicariously through you. I've never been on a date with someone I didn't know. All of my relationships have been with people that were friends first and then became relationships.

Go you! Have lots of fun:)
