I should've thought this would happen.

What if, less-than-hypothetically, someone were selling my mp3s of JC's show as an audio CD for personal profit?

*seethes*

I made that recording because I knew I couldn't wait the two months until the album officially came out to hear the songs again, an album of which I plan on buying enough copies for a small country. But I wanted to make them available for everyone who wouldn't get the experience and energy of JC live, free to anyone who wanted it. If I'd wanted to, I could've done the eBay thing like so many others, but I never, not for a single moment did it for any kind of glory or profit. And not only is this being done without my permission (not that said individual needs it, as neither one of us owns anything in this scenario) but it's being done for profit, which not only goes against the spirit in which these clips were shared by an extremely generous community of people, but it's something that could well be detrimental in other ways.

Is it ridiculous that I feel as if "my" music has just been reverse-pirated?

Nothing I can do? Didn't think so. *sigh* Live and learn, I suppose.

Oh my god. That is just *horrible*.

There is no fucking excuse for that, man.

Grrrrr.

Can't you report the individual to Ebay? Yes, it's technically an illegal recording so some may say you can't be upset about someone else taking it, but the fact that it's illegal could be grounds for Ebay to yank the auction. You don't even have to say you recorded it, just report it. Just a thought.

Babe I saw that and I think from what he said he has the impression that someone else made the clips. I'd email him if you're upset and explain.

That sucks that this happened to you! :( Some people are only in things for themselves... I hate that.

I had very serious issues when I saw that he had gone on to selling mp3s, which yeah, a lot of the other stuff is just as illegal, but it's not the guy's primary product and it just rubbed me the wrong way. This disc bothers me, but the one of /all/ their music, including album tracks, makes me shake my head and mumble unhappily.

Based on the comments above, I think I've got a fairly good guess who you're talking about. And if I'm right, I wonder if it might be worth going public (on LJ, that is), so people can know what he's doing and--one hopes--refuse to do business with him in the future. I realize his customer base (again, assuming I'm connecting the dots correctly) is wider than just your friends list or mine, but we might make a dent, anyway...

Wow. I can't believe he's doing that. Well, I guess I can, because he's done everything else, but... wow. Are you sure that they're the same clips?

That is just wrong on so many levels and totally goes against the LJ-fandom-sharing-thing. (I'm good with words, can you tell?)
