A Florida woman was jet skiing down the Suwannee River (yes, that river) on Thursday when a fish jumped out of the water, knocking her unconscious, lacerating her spleen and shearing off four fingers.

This is the fish. Eep. However, helpfully, the boyfriend provided a sense of SCALE.

I may never sleep again.

OMG I'm so not kidding about not sleeping. The ocean seems to have been frighteningly immune to extinctions.

That's so weird! There are tons of sturgeon in WI, but they are mainly bottom dwellers and are only caught during ice fishing days in the dead of winter when they tend to come a little closer to the surface. I don't know if I've ever heard of one jumping. Must be the different temperature and habitat that make them behave differently in WI. How insane though! Those things are HUGE and UGLY!!!

Well, they come to the river to spawn, and I'd snap at a jet ski if it interrupted me. The sound probably doesn't help, but it also likely agitates them, and animals don't seem to care much about size when defending their breeding grounds. Seriously though, sharks notwithstanding, NO FISH SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT MUCH DAMAGE.

Fo'shizzle. I'm suddenly very glad most things that size either went extinct or are "veggiesaurus"-es now. But really, now fresh water isn't safe? Barracudas were scary enough.
